That may have been mine sitting there then, but I can't tell from the picture. The two boats are nearly identical with the exception of the air scoops. My scoop was on the top of the canopy and the other one had the scoops on the side of the canopy. Here are a few pics of our Gladiator under construction. When these first two pics were taken, the boat that Dhlaw has was at the factory doing some water testing. The last picture was just before our boat's first race. We threw our number on it just so that we could run it and then took it back to Florida the following day to be painted.

While our boat was in the shop being wired, this is what Dhlaw's boat was doing. Testing, testing, testing. This was roughly 2 months after the picture posted by Open72, so his picture could very well be of Dhlaw's boat.

Here is the first of the three canopied Gladiators. It was similar to the last two, but the the major differences are that the canopy was not as tall, it was not staggered and the exhaust came through the transom rather than through the top deck. In the last picture here, you can see that there is not much head room. I am only 5'9" and my head hit the ceiling a few times while we were running it, even with the belts as tight as possible. If you compare this one to the other two, you can see that the canopy is substantially taller on the last two boats.

Hot Duck 01-22-2005 12:31 AM

Re: Somebody trade me!!!

For somebody considering Dhlaw's boat, keep this in mind. It is one of only two in existence. The canopy was cut off of the first one so there are only two canopied Gladiators left. Skip Braver bought Cigarette when ours was just about finished. He said that once ours was finished that they would never build another canopied one because it took too much time and was not cost effective. I think that a lot of it may have been that Skip did not want anything to do with racing and I honestly think that if it had not been for Phil being there every day, they would have cut some corners on mine just to get it out the door and to get rid of it. That's the feeling I got anyway.

So, for somebody looking for a very unique boat, this is it. It is clean, it handles well, it looks awesome and it is fast. Also, with the taller canopy, the issue of hitting your head on the roof is solved. Even if you don't want to race it, buy the boat, install a small AC system and a nice stereo and you will have an awesome poker run rocket that is guaranteed to turn some heads! Not to mention that with it being plain white, you can do anything you want to the exterior! :D Damn, now I am starting to think that I want it. Do you see what you all have done! :D :D :D

Yes. Mine was a 2003 as well. It is now owned by my old racing partner who is also my cousin. He renamed it "Wanted" and is still racing it. Here are two pics of it from Key West this past November. I don't know who took these pics, but they are fantastic.

It has always been my contention that former race boats make great pleasure/poker run boats because of the way they are built. Rarely does a pleasure boater dish out the kind of punishment these boat are designed to take therefore they last forever. I have always had a thing for boats with a pedigree.... this boat and my prior boat have pedigrees. It is also evident in the speeds that they run with stock power. Put a few whipples on this bad boy and you will be waving bye bye to alot of people without even getting your hair out of place!!!

All the builders should do what O/L did with XXX, made the canopy removable.

DPT MOTORSPORTS 01-22-2005 11:16 AM

Re: Somebody trade me!!!

CMG,

While the removable canopy sounds like a great idea for pleasure boating or poker runs. I think that in an unfortunate crash scenario the removable canopy would fail and be ripped off the boat. The other thing that could be done with this boat if you were not using it for racing would be to cut the top off and make it like the Outerlimits but only if it was never to be raced again.

Re: Somebody trade me!!!

Corrado,

I don't think he has any pics on his site still but Tres Martin did the conversion to the original canopied gladiator that ran under the YACHTS banner. If I can find some pics I will post them.

The boat that HOTDUCK is sitting in was the boat that the top was cut off of. Was Yachts International and then later became Miccousukee and then was under the SeaTow banner.

You just described my boat, exactly

The canopied Gladiator is sweet ... I hope no one cuts the top off.

Docking a canopied boat is no different than any other boat. When in close quarters, I use to stand up with my head out of the hatch so that I could see all the way around the boat. Even standing up, you can still easily reach the shifters and throttles to maneuver the boat anywhere you want to put it.

Here it is when Brett owned it and raced it as Miccosukee Indian Gaming. This is indeed the one that had the canopy removed.

Your boat certainly does have a pedigree, as Dhlaw describes it. Here it is when it was new, when it was Miccosukee Indian Gaming and when we had it as Lynch Mob. Yours is another boat that I would love to have back. That is another great boat for somebody that is looking!

Beautiful job rigging Brett!

What a great buy for someone wanting a ready to race boat. Clean, very very clean.

I am very interested in the driveshaft cover on the forward engine. What is it made of? Did you have a custom driveshaft made too? I am not exactly impressed with the factory shaft and cover and worry about putting more torque to it than the stock motors would deliver to it.

2112,

This boat was rigged by Tres Martin and Staff at Martin Offshore in Ft Lauderdale. If Dhlaw does not have all the answers you need Tres will.

Can't see the picture that well. Are you saying that the people in the 42 are wearing belts? If so, is this a bad thing in an open style cockpit? Tiger Performance has velcro belts in their catalog. I was considering using these to help hold down my girlfriend of all 110lbs. in the seat of my cat. Recommendations?

Are these the automotive crate 525's? Would you consider an outright sale? Without pinning you down, give me a number? Sorry, but do not have anything that I think you would consider for trade. I would sell it myself and go from there.

Click on the image and you'll see the belts on rear seats. Its kind of like seat belts on a motorcylce (well not that bad). bad enough being dis-orientated from being thrown from a boat at speed - worse under water / upside down and strapped in. Pretty sure an insurance company would see the same way.

now as far as recomendations for the girlfriend - first I'll need some pics before what would be best for her. Possibly a slower/safer deep V... like a Formula 311? :evilb:

Thanks CMG, Your right about wearing a bucket type belt in an open cockpit. As for the girlfriend, she already knows what's best for her--------------me.

No offense Sean H but this boat needs to be on a Race Course and not a Poker Run course. I am betting with all the new SBI/APBA news that he should start to get some calls or inquires.

Dhlaw,

Do you know what the reasoning was behind of the switch back to the Vortecs from the Merc 525's?? I know they were in there when Tres did the complete rerigging of the boat.
