When the forum was rebuilt I believe there was conscious decision to reduce the snide comments and barbs that were common in the old Winni Forum. To that end it has, shall I say, a different "culture" than here. Now I'm used to a little back-n-forth when discussing any given topic but some people aren't. To that end I think Don has tailored his (yes it is his, he owns it, it's his playground) website for those people. This doesn't bother me at all, frankly there's more than enough barb tossing these days IMHO. That said I do think there was some misinterpretation of FO's comment bout "keeping APS in line". I figured it pretty much the way it was intended (presenting a differing opinion) but I guess it's like parents when the kids are screaming at each other - Dad says "you all just shut up !" and there's not much judging as to who started it. Well the last thing I want to do is cause my "offshore brethren" any more problems, you certainly have enough of those up there already. Asking, or expecting, "regular" people to put on an expensive set of mufflers for one day seems a bit much unless of course you want to provide the mufflers. So in order not to cause you, or anyone else more problems, I'll just choose to stay off your lake.

The whole crack about 60 boats with open exhaust was a joke, just one of many on this thread. Apparently a lot of people up there don't understand what humor is.

FYI, if you see a "smilie" at the end of a post it usually denotes there is humor involved.

Jon, you ain't lyin about that. You'd think that by putting a smilie at the end of that post about 60 boats with open exhaust, people would REALIZE it's a joke. Must be a sign up there somewhere that says: Welcome to Lake Winnie, please leave your sense of humor at home....

Down here we don't need to run mufflers. 90% of the offshore boats down here run open exhaust. They don't hassle us at all about it. I rather doubt that a visiting boat from out of state running open exhaust for one day would make the Earth rotate backwards for these people. But I damn sure am not going to go out and spend eighteen hundred bucks for a set of mufflers to run for one day and I also think that people have a lot of nerve to even suggest that. If running no mufflers for one day is going to cause THAT BIG a problem, screw it, it's just not worth the hassle. I enjoyed very much boating on Lake Winnie in my 242 with twin small blocks with open exhaust back in the early/mid 90's and never got hassled. But not enough to lay out that kind of green to boat on it for one day.

Fomula Outlaw,I know tou were kidding and I apoligize for not stating that.It just hit a sore point with me.You can see how people think on that lake.Every once and a while, say on July 4th weekend, somebody will show up with a pair of unmuffled sterling 1200,s or something similar, just for one weekend. They will use the boat untill they get thrown off.Once they are gone, the repercussions start for every other performance boater out there. At the next town meeting, noise regulations are brought up and people start getting pulled over.It can ruin your summer.Anyhow, unless you have some sort of big power, you could probably get by without mufflers.Thank you for helping our cause, and I hope to see you on the lake.

Hey don't get me wrong, I LOVED Lake Winnie. Thought it was just fabulous. The scenery can't be beat. I love your "Free Winnie" idea for the stickers.

I would never bash the lake or the people, just, as I've said at least thirty times now, the "I don't like it so you can't do it" ideology of some of the people associated with the Lake Winnie Forum. And that is not just associated with the Lake Winnie issues, it goes for all aspects of life. :drink:

Thanks for acknowledging I was kidding. Like I said, I would not intentionally cause a problem for my fellow boaters, and that includes ALL boaters.

And just to make it clear: I refer to the Lake as "Lake Winnie" not to be confused with a "weenie" as in a Green Weenie. So when I refer to a weenie I am not referring to Lake Winnie. Just wanted to make sure everyone realizes that.

And I am not running big power or dry exhaust. Just your basic 454 mags in my 311 Formula, however I did do away with my silent thunder box. HOO RAY......

Gregg~

44,000 acres - 25 miles end to end.

This is not a total surprise, they didn't get what they wanted last time so they figure they'll go after it again. I'm in for that meeting - I'll just stay up Sunday night and head over there Monday.

Boat Speed Limit Approved For Winnipesaukee
Gov. Lynch Says He Will Sign The Bill
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) ― It looks like some boaters will have to slow down on Lake Winnipesaukee next summer. The Senate passed trial speed limits Thursday for the state's biggest lake in a 14-10 vote.

The plan is on its way to Gov. John Lynch's desk. He has said he will sign it.

The bill sets speed limits at 45 mph during the day and 25 mph at night. The speed limits would go into effect beginning Jan. 1.

Boat speed limits have been debated for years. A group of year-round homeowners and vacationers on the lake pushed for the limit.

The plan that has been approved differs from past plans because it applies only to Lake Winnipesaukee and would go off the books in two years.

Manchester Democrat Louis D'Allesandro said speed limits amount to government overkill. "I always thought we were the Live Free or Die state, but here we are, restricting every phase of our lives," D'Allesandro said. "When does this end?"

He also suggested the speed limits would cause even more speeding.

"Who is going to arrest the boat police?" D'Allesandro said. "'Cause they're going to have to speed to catch the speeders."

Sen. Robert Letourneau, a Derry Republican, also opposed the limits. He said the possible speed limits have made boaters hesitant to put their boats in the water, which hurts businesses on the lake.

But Sen. Peter Burling, a Cornish Democrat, said it's important to consider those who say fast boats are bad for the lake. He said lawmakers tried to strike a balance.

"It's 'Live Free or Die' for everybody, and that includes the family in the kayak," Burling said.

Lawmakers would need to pass a new law to keep speed limits in place after Jan. 1, 2011.

I have been boating on Lake Winni for 25 years and I am very respectful of others on the water. I have even slowed to a stop more than once to let kayakers pass in front of me, but believe me if I am out in the broads and it is safe to do so, I am gonna rip so that the tree huggers can admire my ROOSTERTAIL!!!!:cool-smiley-011:

That's the spirit!!. I have been told that it is not a absolute speed limit, but a prima facie limit, which legally means you can go over the speed limit if it is reasonable and proper. Check out the Winni site, it's explained a little better there. See you in the broads at 90 MPH+!! :D:D

We have speed limits on roads and I don't follow them. Good luck to them trying to enforce it. If they could control the pwc most of the problems would go away. To many inexperienced people buying pwc that can do 70 and can't control it and with the rising gas prices I think we will be seeing more of them.

I wouldn't rely on "prima facie" as a form of defense. I have to say I have never seen that work, EVER. You get the ticket. You go to court. They want your money, and don't care about your argument. Guilty. Pay the baliff on your way out. Now you are out time and money.

The bottom line, you just lost your rights with the pompous law.

One more freedom down the drain.

Don't beleive everything that you read on the internet. As I read that part of the law it basically means that the max speed is 45. You can not use that 45 MPH speed limit as an excuse to go say 45 in a crowd of other boaters. The 150 foot rule will apply as would the 150 foot from shore laws. I am not a lawer but that is how I read that part of the law.

Cruisers will be Winn ***s next target. Whinypisaukee is what that lake will not be refered to by me. Very sad

Jon

pm203 05-17-2008 08:28 AM

Yes, but enforcement is going to be very difficult. The chance of the MP actually catching you speeding will be very rare . And, if they do see you, the radar will only work in certain situations. It's like driving on the highway, you are going to have to be diligent in checking out your surroundings while and before you speed.
On another note, I am going to contact the governor's office and ask that state money not be wasted on a law with no merit. He can still veto it.

damdonzi 05-17-2008 11:28 AM
