Re: 38' CAT up in smoke
We believe the fire started from the chop gun bleeding some raw resin onto the floor when the last layer of glass was started, then after we were done the pressure was bled off the catalyst pump into a bucket that was close to the raw resin and a little over spray started a chemical reaction that started the fire. Human error! Catalyst (MEKP) is very volatile and will react with a wide variety of materials, unfortunately normal procedures were not followed.
I was on the fire with dry chemicals within 15 seconds but, it was to late. We had automatic dry chemical extinguishers that helped to control the fire but, ultimately the Fire Department put it out. The Fire Department was there in ten minutes or less and did a spectacular job saving the rest of the building. I owe them big time. |
