How much is it worth??
 

I bought a Mini Hawk and I need an outboard engine for it. I found this one on Ebay and it's exactly what I need. Short shaft 25 HP Merc with remote steering.

I'm the high-bidder but haven't met the sellers reserve price. Does anyone know what it's worth (or have one to sell me at a good price!!) :D :D

Small outboards tend to hold thier value MUCH better than big ones. I guess this will sell for around $2k.

what is the max capacity of that boat? i think you need to go bigger anyway to make it fun :D 40hp would be decent.

The guy that I bought it from (Greg) told me that a 25 is perfect for the boat. A 40 HP will work, but it will be scary as hell and unstable! :eek:

He said that with a 25 HP the boat will go about 38 mph (which will feel like about 80 in that small of a boat) and I will be able to throw the keys to anyone and not be worried about them killing themselves (or someone else). The hull only weighs about 250 lbs.

N.A.D.A. Has it listed for $1925 high retail,$1700 Average retail,$1480 Used trade-in :eek: The long shaft is about $700 more across the board.

Craig, I'll check around here, there are tons of small outboards at the places here near the river, so they should all be freshwater units anyway. Any specific brand? How old will you go? Small ob's run forever. I have 78, 9.8 horse merc that runs like new.

Thanks Joe. I'm looking for a Merc 25 or a Johnson/Evinrude 30. Short shaft, remote steering/shift. I have an OMC shifter/throttle setup that is brand new. I'm going to use that or sell/trade it if I get a Merc (which is what I would rather have).
I don't want a really old one, but I don't want to spend much more than $1000 either. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I really just don't know a thing about what I'm looking for... or what it's worth for that matter.

A friend has a 2001 30 HP Yamaha electric start long shaft for sale for $2,500.00 It's got the tiller controls. I know it's not what you want, but thought I'd send you the info for comparison.

Go look at academy andbuy a new one ... ove the winter time they might even have a sale.... my uncle did this and added on the throttle and steering and had around $2,600.00 in it when he was done...... he bought used throttle and steering..

25 is perfect for that boat .. my sister had one for the kids and i took it out a couple times ..It flew with the 25 ..especially after i shimmed it , threw it up a pin :drink:

I CAN'T!!!! Our company won a bunch of awards in our industry and the ceremony is the 29th from 6-11pm in Williamsburg. I was pi$$ed when I realized it was the same night.
BTW: Did I see you listed as a member of CBPBA. What poker runs do they do? I've already registered for the Richmond run but would like to do one on the upper bay. Would prefer one that goes to Annapolis or Baltimore just to see the area by water. Any suggestions?

Craig, call Tim at Marine Services in Woodbridge VA. He's a great guy and really knows his stuff when it comes to marine engines. He's the only guy who I let touch my boat. Anyway, he has alot of used outboard motors for sale, too. I'm sure he can help you.
Just tell him I told you to call him. Hopefully he won't charge you extra! :p

Hey Craig, we still got a V8 300 OB hanging around, I think we can make it work, I got a great set of tools :D

Russ, we do about 4 runs a year in the upper Bay. If you sign up as a website member (free) on www.cbpba.com you can check up on all our events and join us for the fun. We will definitely help you burn up some fuel and kill some brain cells- right Craig?????? :drink:

I did sign up, but all I see is the names and dates of the runs. It doesn't list where they go. Remember I'm not familiar with the area if it did anyway. Just thought I'd take the easy way out and ask a "local".

You may want to try and find a boat and motor. You can often find them for less than just buying the engine. You can always sell the boat without the motor to get some money back. Just a thought.

Thanks Cuda, but tiller steering won't cut it. I tried to get that one on Ebay at the last minute but couldn't get the high bid. As a consolation, I did jack the price that the winner had to pay for it up $152 :D :D I bet he's thrilled with me!!
