Diesel or Gas?
Our gas rig has never had that problem and a few weeks back we had a couple of nights at -30* and last winter all of January was below 0* and nothing of that nature happened. You might want to be careful where you get your gas sounds like the problem is more moisture in your gas than the Excursion. Ours is a V-10 gas rig. |

If it's a diesel, here's your place to find out any and every thing.
Run by and many members are Ford Diesel techs. http://flatratetech.com/6literpowers...ultimatebb.cgi |

Boot, sounds like you got some bad fuel. Diesel (winter blend) should not have this issue until about 0 degrees or below F. Try some Techron (chevron) fuel system cleaner.

The pickup in the fuel tank freezes and your SOL,you need to add anti gel to every tank of deisel.I know all too well,my deisel 7.3 box truck was towed 3 times last week.I also owned a 2003 dually 7.3 and same thing happened,I didnt cry when they stole it in canada, bought a 2004 with 6.0 and it never happened again.

I'm not crazy ! :drink: I know there IS a fuel line update on the excursions because fuel sits in the low spot and freezes while driving . I just need to find this on paper to hand to Ford when we walk in the door and they say they never herd that ....... I'll bet it was Troutly that has this info . He finds all the dirt on Fords ! :D |
Re: HELP ! Need info on changing problem (freezing) fuel line on excursion . who has it ?
OH, plumbers crack , your right too , there is a tiny screen in the tank ,On a pump,(E series only) and the water beeds up and freezes . The "DIESEL TECH" at ford didn't know this ... I almost got into a fist fight with him before he realized I was right ! After the 3rd time they towed the truck( 100 miles each time ) he finaly listened and dropped the tank ,cleaned the tank, and the screan and pump that he said was not in there ...... He said I was an idiot for thinking there was a drain on the tank till I showed it to him ! Too bad all tanks don't have drains .....
(The pickups don't , only the E series vans do .) |
Re: HELP ! Need info on changing problem (freezing) fuel line on excursion . who has it ?
I recommend just having her towed and checked out, my 2001 7.3 was terrible if the heater was not plugged in below 20 degrees.
The new 6.0 HCFM filter also acts as a warmer, which I am not quite clear on, (just read my book tonight). It's location sucks for changing, but two filters are better than one. I will attest my 6.0 started after many long sub 0 nights in Ohio, we had no electric at Xmas and she was fine. The book also says to ensure you above 1/4 tank a gas to avoid excess air in the system. WARNING, be sure of what your doing opening any part of the fuel line on the 7.3. Bryan |

Wow....Sure glad I moved from Northern Illinois to South Florida. My 02 Excursion Diesel starts everyday..........I do remenber the problems with diesel engines when it dropped below zero. Always add diesel fuel additive no matter what the make. :D

I use the additives year round.
