Excursion diesel

Drove Tahoes for years, now I buy Ex'es. Drive it every day, everywhere. 50K plus a year.

I spend alot of time on the road and get to see alot of highway carnage. ALL cars are deathtraps.

Last week saw where a kid in a Cavalier stopped paying attention and went onto the berm on the highway. Rear-ended a broken-down crewcab dually. Cavalier looked like a car bomber, post-detonation. You could have driven the dually home.

My 16 year old is learning to drive in a Tahoe. He's forbidden to even ride in anything smaller.

Downside- the Excursion tows so effortlessly that anything under 6,000 lbs disappears back there. You forget and start cutting other drivers off on lane-changes.

Yeah, details man, details. :D

I've got an LB7 in mine. Ran a 1/4 in 14.74 @ 91.3 mph at the track last time I was out a couple weeks ago. Run it in 2wd as the track is usually in pretty good shape.

What about a Crown Vic? SUVs roll over all the time here in LA, and the results are often fatal.

I have probably one of the most modified Supercharged Tahoes for sale. This is a 99 Tahoe Sport 4x4 with Supercharger, head work, intake work, custom air box, wrapped headers with stainless exhaust, custom dash with navigation system and $20,000 in sound system all custom fiberglassed in rear with high end equipment and show installation. Truck also has Hotchkis suspension, custom wheels, Bilstein shocks. The list is a mile long. Truck is charcoal gray in color and only has 19,000 miles. Remote start Viper alarm. Looks brand new as truck sits in showroom for demos in my custom car audio store. TOTAL INVESTED is around $75,000. WIll sell for $31,850 or best offer.

If anyone is interested call me at 813-227-9779.

My 99' Ram 1500 with 360, 4X4 Longbed Reg. Cab., towed my boat well. Insurance issues forced me to what I have now. The boat and trailer weight exceeded the truck's factory two rating, so if I'd been in an accident towing, my insurance was void. MOST policys are this way. Everyone should check the "fine print" and see. My insurance agent warned me that this was a way that insurance companies are getting around having to pay claims. And it happens more than you even want to know.

TranSynD for Allisons... ;) I have an full line Allison/Mack dealer/service center a couple miles away.
I buy genuine Allison filters filters for $6.70 apiece. :D

If you haven't changed the "grape juice" out in the diffs...it's time. Changed my rear @ 3K after my first 1000 mile 10K tow, and will change the front this spring after it's first winter of 4WD/plowing.

If 'ya drive 'em hard or work 'em hard...lube maintenence is your friend.

Re: tow vehicles

Rippem, you'd be surprized how many Duramax owners haven't heard about putting the right fluid in their trans(getting rid of the crap gm put in). I'm in the transmission repair business and we still haven't seen any duramaxes come in for repair but often when i'm repairing somebodys spare work truck they also have a duramax and i try to inform them. Also, alot of these guys mistakenly think they have a 100K mile drivetrain warranty that covers the transmission and t-case,axles etc when actually if they took the time to read their invoice or owners manual they would see the extended warranty only covers MAJOR engine components and NOTHING else,Smitty

Rippem 02-05-2005 11:54 AM

Re: tow vehicles

exactly, the Allison's done with warranty @ 36K/months. Mostly because of the cheap dino fluid cost-down by GM.

and the 4 qt. shallower pan that GM insists on that trans. because of already least in class ground clearance.
