It's happened at least a dozen times and I always give the exact same answer.

First, let me say - women are pathetic.

We trailer our boat...lest it get dirty. Before each trip we stop at the gas station and he fills it up while I go get the beverages and snacks. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have walked out of a gas station and heard a woman ask my husband to take her for a ride.

Somehow I don't think they only mean the boat.

This happened to my brother ( NY attorney ). He's mostly a sailor, but is marginally competent in a 20' center console.
Recently divorced, he brought a girl out from New York for the weekend. Borrowed my boat ( 20' SeaCraft, Johnson 120hp ) to take her out for the day. At the gas dock, he's fueling up, regaling her with his seafaring stories, and notices a strong odor of gasoline. Using all his maritime savvy, he discovers that he is filling one of the four gunwhale ROD-HOLDER's. The bilge pumps are working overtime pumping gasoline out of the bilge as fast as he's pumping it in . . . into the harbor. . . . BTW - he's an ENVIRONMENTAL attorney. . . . don't think it got him laid.

One time at band camp ..

I pulled upto the marina one springbreak morning with my yanmar diesel parasailboat with the center hatch open and diesel ratteling away and asked for a fillup .While i'm checking the fluids i smell gas and look up and the kid put 200 gallons of diesel in the tank . I told them they would have to pump it out so i could go to work,they said i put the nozzle in ,wich i had, but assumed the guy knew i was a diesel from the motor knocking right in front of him.Needless to say i missed a day of work that cost me about 7000 and i had 200 gallons of gas that had to be pumped out. i will always watch the nozzle from now on.

The boat WAS a diesel - hence the Yanmars.

Oh I forgot, this past summer a great friend of mine got a new Baja 30' anyway he was gassing up for the first time, filled the water tank all the way up with 89oct gas In his defence the two caps were right beside eah other and looked the same, design flaw on that boat
