Torque v-12's Whats going on?
Just curious to know if the motors are still made, if they were any good, problems with them, pricing. I know Callan has been running them but can the public buy them?

Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
he bought the rights to them and him and sterling have been working them out and trying to make them more affordable. call either sterling or callan, i am sure you can get them, but i would guess they are still some serious cash.....

Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
I don't think I ever heard anything good about them. A friend of mine put them in a New 50 foot Jaguar, Wild Thing a few years ago and had nothing but problems. He had them pulled out after spending HUGE bucks trying to get them to perform. I know Aqua Toy store had a Hustler and believe they had their share of problems also. In my opinion, if your going to spend that kind of $$$ on big power, call Rod at Race Crafters.

I think Sterling Performance Engines is building these motore now. I think that the Callan Marine boat ran them this year.

Check with Callan Marine, they own the rights to the Torque motors. They are working with Sterling to get the engines up and running.

Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
they are much better now then they were 4-5 years ago.... a lot of the bugs have been worked out and they make monster power..... 1200-1300 non supercharged..

I put my hands on a pair last week!! :evilb:
They are BIG! MD |
Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
If you have seen them they are also monsters in size. I like the hp and tq numbers from a n/a motor but I'm not sure what they would fit into that you could still do any maintance on.

Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
The new 43 Schiada at the LA Boat Show had a pair of
Falconer V12's in it. These are aviation V12's used in things like the P51's used in the air races. |
Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
they are good motors.. i have had some problems with them in the past.. nothing major but they seem to be on the higher matinnece of the spectra.. and they sound different.. really different

Not exactly but close- the Allison and Rolls Merlin/Griffon V-12 aircraft motors that North American used are almost 4 times the size of the Falconer. He got his motor FAA approved and sells it for use in P-51 replica that's about half-scale. You can see one here- http://www.thundermustang.com/ The Torque was built to be exceptionally reliable and if they can work the bugs out, the cost/benefit ratio to big blower motor will make them a virtual giveaway. As far as size, the motor has a much lower height (CG) and since ther's no blower/intercooler/etc the weight differential shouldn't be significant. If you are talking about an iron-block V-8, that difference should be about nil. |
Re: Torque v-12's Whats going on?
Watch Callan on the race course. His whole goal is to beat on those engines until Sterling figures out how to make them stop breaking. Dave's goal is to run an entire season on one set of engines. When that happens, it's time to buy.

I found it interesting that they are talking to SeaTek about their new V-12.
