It is a fact that a boat is faster in saltwater because the density of the water is higher. Does anyone have any info regarding this (REAL INFO!)? So, if that is true, why would OL not run in there own backyard. It is obviously colder, too.

The Pamlico river is mostly fresh water where Reggie did his run.It is brackish. Its worth i would say 3 to4 Mph difference to run in salt water.

The OL 39 Quattro will do around a 100 or better, can the 42' lightning do the same??

First- A new 42 Lightning w/ 525's is good for about 82-84
Second - JC - That's what I am saying. Why wouldn't the runs be run in saltwater?? In theory, the 177 pass last August could have been 179-182 (??).

WILL :drink:

I thought it cost 30k to run at Reggie's gig last fall?

Could you even GET insurance for a gig like this!? God forbid something happens, how do you put that claim in? "Hi, yeah I need to put in a claim for my boss, he was trying to break a water-speed kilo record in a boat w/ 4,000 horsepower for bragging rights, well he wiped out and... who would I talk to in your claims dept. about this?" :p

Maybe Sy can chime in?

I would like to see them run with stock power as well. The March Powerboat has the Outerlimits 39 Quattro with 525's Hull weight of est 8800 pounds that had a radar speed of 96.9. Who wants to build a motor the runs for a hour and goes 200MPH

ME, ME! I would give you my left nut to run either of those boats.

The run last August cost big $, not 30K.

Sign4boat,
Do you know when it is supposed to take place? Sat am? I would like to join you. Probably couldn't stay the night though. I would take my boat, but my engines are out. I'm sure some others from up here would like to as well... I'm not aware of anyway to get to where they are going to make the run other than by boat, are you?

3-4 MPH in salt based on prop bite alone? 'Cause there sure as hell isn't any hull in (on?) the water at those speeds. You would think it would be a trade off at those speeds if it is the case...dregging skegs through denser water?

Just what they need, a surface more like concrete when the innevitable happens.
