As far as I'm concernred, Poker Runs America sucks BIG time.
After trailoring my 38 Cigarette up to the thousand Islands, paying all applicable fees, hotel for three nights etc, We had completed all but one stop of the run. I had an ignition module go bad. Well, instead of idling one hour to the next stop (which I would have made the deadline) and then 2 1/2 hrs back (in the dark and in unfamiliar waters), I decided to take the short cut back to the marina. After loading up, we headed out to the awards dinner to pick up my last card & give them my hand.
No, no, no.....................I didn't complete the run 100% so I was disqualified.
I have NEVER heard of such a thing at ANY poker run I have ever attended.
I'm glad they still send me sign up info, It makes great kindling in the fireplace!
Billy Frenz & Stu Jones know alot more about customer relations :drink:

All that stuff was great reading, but the best part of that issue has to be me in my old boat on page 22 (running shots)!!!! :D

Here is a picture from the latest issue at the LEOPA Poker RUN.

Ms. PatriYacht (Donna), Mrs. Chi-Town (Debbie) and Chi-Town Hustler dancing the night away. I think I gained 10lbs that weekend thanks to Team Meathouse crew.

DJD,
I concur. Bill Taylor is out to steal your money. The least he could have done is let you play your hand. A few years back, Stu Jones was at the 1000 Island Poker Run. Probably picking up pointers on not what to do!

I have to say Dave, they really should reconsider that particular rule.

We had a boat breakdown in a NJPPC Poker Run and it just so happen to be the President of the club DaveP that towed the guy back to the dock.

DaveP, (the host that he his) called for a limo stocked with beverages for the rest of the trip to Atlantic City which is where the Poker Run ended.

And yes, they got to play out their cards when they got there.

I trailered up last year to the 1000 Islands Poker Run. I had a great time the whole week I was there.

It has got to be the largest event I have ever seen with the most incredible hardware in one event.

But Poker Runs are supposed to be a social event and the only competition is to be in the cards you hold. I don't see why anyone would need to be disqualified for a breakdown. It takes some of the fun out of it.... It's not suppose to be a race right??? :drink:

P.S.
Also, No Kids Allowed from what I was told. Must be 18 or over to be in the boat and they have a minimum boat length too!

Yep, he is after the dollars only, not the people. He doesn't understand that once you screw enough people, people will stop coming.

Re: The King of Speed...Poker Runs America.

I forgot to mention, because of that rule of having to make all the stops, I chose not to enter the run. We just made a day out of some great boating throughout the Islands and watched all the boats fly by.... :drink:

Re: The King of Speed...Poker Runs America.

Is it the February Issue ?

I hear my boat was supposed to be in that issue with the write up of the Rock The Bay Poker run in Maryland.

I don't subscribe to the Mag. Can anyone check if my 35 Sonic (the one in my avatar) is in there.

thanks

I entered in the Sarasota run last year and wasnt able to get all my cards and they allowed me to get them at the end of the run before dinner.

I will agree with you

Billy and Stu put on a much better run

Back to the original topic of the magazine, yes was a good article, and yes he has accomplished quite a bit in this industry that is for sure, like him or not, that is a fact, not fiction.

I disagree with the "gotta make all the stops" rule being "unfair" .... I think that part of a run adds to the "competition" aspect of the run . No, it's not a race , but you do have to "navigate" the course , and get back ect..... with all your cards . If you break down , you break down . Thats er.... "racin" so to speak . Better luck next time .

Re: The King of Speed...Poker Runs America.

I'm for the don't have to complete every stop for good reason philosphy, but there has to be some form of measure to ensure the cheap-azz's don't short-cut it and save on the fuel. But then agian every run is differently setup for different reasons. Some/most are trying to generate funds for charitable cuases and the money is made form $$ spent at the parties and on entry fees, meaing everyone earns the right to draw and the run itself is more of a social activity for the day. Others are out to strictly party and divvy up the bounty to the luckiest both in draws and in boat reliability.
