HELP, Adhesive removal
I have taken the mirrorred plexyglass out of my hatches but am having trouble getting all the adhesive off.I have been trying a plastic putty knife so not to scatch the fiberglass but it is going very slow.I think it is something called 5200.

Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
3M adhesive remover, can be bought at NAPA or any other auto place. Apply it let it work and soften the glue, then, use a hardcard/ Squeegee to remove the glue...

Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
You might consider using 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner P/N 051135-08984. Any store that sells paint and refinishing products for cars would have it. I'm looking at a one quart can. Pretty cheap too as I recall. It's worth a try. Good luck, sometime these things are tricky.

Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
Bad news, 5200 was not intended to come off.
Good news, 3M Adhesive Remover will make it easier. Gary |
Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
What do you use to take adhesive off of teeth?
Maybe it will work on fiberglass  |
Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
Use Gas, the all purpose cleaner. Just don't smoke while your working.
5200 is a glue........ THE BEST GLUE. |

C4  5200 is a bit(h to get off no matter what you use. The "5200" Remover works, but it's still a lot of elbow grease involved. Good luck. |

Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
That's it...........Anti Bond.
Like mentioned before, has to soak in for it to work. |
Re: HELP, Adhesive removal
5200 is not "glue" or "caulk". It is mega-strength polyurethane and it will bond itself to just about anything, including mirror polished stainless steel, plastics, and it even tries to stick to greasy surfaces.
Adhesive remover is only a tiny bit better than nothing. Anti-bond was expressly designed to kill 5200. But it's like wallpaper remover. You gotta razor blade off the bulk of it, then work from the edges inward with the AntiBond. But it WILL get it. |
