Let mine expire after 16 years. Tired of water downed reviews of the same mass production builders and outstanding reviews going to less than superior products which seemed to coincide with the expansion of advertisement by one boat builder in particular.

Photo spreads got progressively smaller. Don't give a crap about ski boats, PWC or tunnel and hydroplane racing.

I subscribe to OSO, S&F, Extreme Boats, Family Performance and Poker Runs America.

You guys keep bringing up this whole "they're stroking the ads" thing like it's something new. What boating magazine has said, "hey, this boat is a piece of sh!t"?? PBM has tested boats that they feel this way about I can assure you. But in a politically correct arena you can't just come out and say this. If you know what the hell you're reading you can read through the lines. I have read in articles that the wiring or rigging wasn't the best or the boat porpoised slightly, etc. What kind of negative info are you looking for?

This has been posted several times and there are ways they deal with larger issues with boats
a) fix the problem
b) take it off the market until it's fixed
c) the write up runs as-is.

Those are the choices. What would you do if you were a builder...fix the problem. I think that is a fair way of handling it.

Each magazine has it's nitch. PBM focuses on the high end elite, new stuff and tries to touch on various topics that deal with powerboating i.e. racing, poker runs, skiboats, deck boats, hydro, etc. Hotboat does the lake boats and some smaller stuff. Extreme does alot of poker runs, racing and reader stuff, Family and performance does alot of technical, various new tests and showcase stuff. I like all the magazines for their different take on powerboating.

I can assure you this: PBM staff cares about what their readers want. They are not unaccessible, email them with a request or complaint....or even a kudos! They are here to serve their client...YOU! Opinions vary and you can't please everyone.

Gregg Mansfield is a fresh start for the mag and wants to do right by it's readers. He is a very down to earth guy and very approachable. They also have the addition of asst. editor Jason Johnson who is completely new to the mag and very eager make it the best magazine on the market as well as the addition of Tomlinson to the test team which will even out the test reports. They are also staffing a Florida office to keep in touch with the boating Mecca itself.

Say what you want about them but don't say that they don't work VERY hard to please their readers, because they do!

Is their office going to be in the same building in Maitland where the Save-the-manatee club is headquartered?
Power joke sucks! And that is my opinion!

PBM is still a good publication and even better in the last 18 months or so... Technically and politically it is very accurate and concise. I still read mine cover to cover!

Tank,
I'll say this much, you are one even keeled guy! :D I know Gregg is a personal friend of yours and you want him to succeed @ Powerboat, which I would too, if I were you and Gregg was my friend.
I'll tell you what, I'm going to back off on my anti-Powerboat stance for the time being, and see if PB, with it's new editor and satelite Fl. HQ, can get up to speed with the $MC/Manatee situation down here in Fl.! :drink:
Believe me, NO ONE was more disappointed in Brett Becker and Co. response to the $MC ad debate here on OSO, than me! And we Floridians sure could use PB's help in DEFEATING the $MC propaganda machine! The time is now, look what just happened in NH, (HB162)!! :(

Dean, that is fare-nuff. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the future. ;)

I think the issue with the manatee's would be a good article.
