Re: Geeez! SPEEDRACER THREAD

This boat was the absolute CHIT at this show. The attention to detail is like nothing I have ever seen before. The longer you gawk at it the more you see. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera. The paint looked like it was 3D. Everywhere on the boat there was a theme of some sort. There was a Hell of a Lot of little things to see. Did anyone happen to look at the shock mounting brackets of the engiine hatch? They were stamped metal in the form of a speedometer!!!! These are shock mounting brackets for Pete's sake! Unbelievable. The owner gets my vote for TOP DOG.

oh yeah, and did you notice the suede side panels in the cockpit???????????

What kind of boat was this?

Re: Geeez! SPEEDRACER THREAD

With that much hardware in Miami its hard to stand out. But the Speedracer Mti definitely DID. Somebody might come up with a different theme, but it will be tough to top the detail. I'm trying to find the pic of Speedracer art on the drive shaft cover. I talked to the owner and the person responsible for the graphics, just awesome. Doug

For the record he paid $1.1 M for Speed Racer!

For me personally - taking into account that I have a "budget" for my next boat, the NorTech 39V was my pick of the show. But for overall pick, yeah Speed was by far the nutz!!! The "sticker" right by the fuel fill turned out to be paint!! Everything on this boat was insane, I have never seen a paint job like this!

1.1 Mill does not do justice for this piece of art, money will spent, just because it is the talk of the show. I`m glad I had the chance to see it in person, never had I spent so much time looking at a boat.

I agree, by far the most impressive piece at the show. Truly a work of art! The boat to my understanding will spend a great deal of its time at the Lake Of The Ozarks. I am not going to give out the owner's name, but I am sure somebody on here will find out. MTI's best work yet...

Tony

It was the best I saw at the show. My wife and her friend Martha both kept talking about the boat all day, that proves to me how nice it is! :D

they did an amazing job! the pictures just can't do it justice.

Randy Kent is the madman that owns SpeedRacer. SUPER nice guy. It is a MTI 44PR. I had the pleasure of seeing it at the factory in its finishing stages. ABSOUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!
$1.2 is the number on the boat and worth every penny.

It just proves the point I was trying to make that these machines need to be approached with tremendous respect, and the people getting in them better know what risks are involved. The speed is semantics if it blew over...it was fast enough.

By canopy I meant an enclosed cockpit, my mistake for lack of precision, but even that my not be enough for speeds that would blow over a big cat.

RIP to the ones involved in that terrible accident of course.

Ted G 02-22-2005 08:50 PM

Re: Geeez! SPEEDRACER THREAD

It was a fully enclosed cockpit with just a hatch on top like most of the raceboats have. You are right, at some speed, there is no safety gear that is gonna help. I don't think anyone will ever know exactly what happened to Ed and Roger, but Ed had many hours in his previous turbine boat (open) and knew as much about those boats as anyone-just proves that sometimes stuff just happens-and yeah, these boats can kill ya.

Ok!!!!

The boat is done and looks awesome!!!

Now maybe someone will start production on a movie???

Afterall, they seem to be doing that a lot lately. Batman, Spiderman, Catwoman etc....

Re: Geeez! SPEEDRACER THREAD

Closed canopy can also take your life if theres no dive
support.Unless your on 100% oxygen,flipped over knocked
out and you will probably drown. I would also think that
your balls tend to grow when your totally enclosed.Just my 2

I am somewhat certain it was this boat, without enclosed cockpit. From what the insurance holder told me.

I had seen it in PB Mag in August 2003 oor something like that.

No, that boat was sold to a buyer in NY and the boat that flipped was #2 that ITS was working on. They also had a 36 single in the works.

My bad Ted thanks for the precision.

Re: Geeez! SPEEDRACER THREAD

GL-No problem, I just want the record clear, I would hate for the NY guy to find out his boat flipped when it didn't-you know how the internet is

One thing is certain-Ed was a great guy and I am proud to have known him. His life ended too early, albeit doing what he loved. And if one person thinks about what happened to him, realizes that we do something inherently dangerous, and changes his actions in a way that saves someone from accident or injury-that would be a good thing.
