Lake Michigan is really more of and inland sea than a lake. All of the ports have access to the ocean be it through the St Lawrence Seaway or the Mississippi River. Ask any of the racers who used to race on her. She is very unpredictable and almost impossible to read. As far as one large boat sinking. Her bottom is littered with the wreckage of many large vessels

I was at the Grand Haven race about 4 years ago and the race officials went out to check the water conditions in a 38 cigarette and ripped the seat boulsters right out of the floor it was so ruff so they cancelled the race.

Most Great lakes boaters don't have the comfort of running in the sheltered intercoastal either. HA !

Definately, I'll stick to the intracoastal.

Last I knew Michigan had more SHOREline than any other state in the USA, with all the great lakes aswell.

So where does on the (coast) differentiate whether it's Offshore or not ?

Offshore Powerboats or OffCoast Powerboats ?

Seems like a silly argument, Any body that has spent
anytime in her wrath will know it's nothing to toy with.

Last I heard, back more in the 80's when it was more the
norm to race on the great lakes. It was supposedly the
most unfavorite Body of water to race due to unpredictable
conditions, You really have to have your wits about you!

With no disrespect to our ocean running friends.
