Info on this 28 Apache

My buddy is looking at this boat. Some of you 28 Apache guys have probably seen it. Tell me what you know. Thanks!

Here it is.

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

I am kind of surprised that 70 is the top speed on that boat with 502's in it. I just assumed it would be faster than that. I know it is a heavy, well built boat and all but to have that much power in a boat that size, I figured it would be close to 80 if not more.

that was me, saber28, i did look at it in 98. and yes it was trashed. worst of all the guy who was selling it was a total LIAR, bentley was his name and it was in sturgeon bay so maybe he still owns it. call me if you want the whole story 616-901-0157, scott

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

Brandon, I tried to buy that apache it needs lots of work. The broker said the owner won't move on the price. There is a 28 in grand haven that would be a better deal for the money. The Yellow 28 needs 15,000 to bring it up to par.

As always, thank's guys. I told him I could have that boat shaken down by tomorrow morning. Looks like I was way too conservative. I think he's just feeling the water right now. He wants a powerboat at some point though. Thanks again.

This cracks me up. I normally don't get involved in these politics. If anyone wants to see this boat, call me. Saber, not sure who you are, but if you have a problem with me or this boat, call me. I have been in this business for over 20 years. I'm not going to wreck my reputation on a 35k boat. It has some use, but it's not trashed. There are 1990 boats out there that are in better condition and many that are in worse shape. If someone really wants to buy the boat. Just come and look at it, make a reasonable offer and you can own it. No nonsense and no bs. My number is (920) 743-7842

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

I talked to the broker extensively last year. After I heard some rumors about the interior being "trashed", I put the question directly to the broker. He said that the interior does "need some work" but really didn't expand on that. I suppose that could be translated as being trashed, but everybody has their own definitions. I remember the broker also saying something about 600 hours. I believe that those were the hours on the drives, that the engines were newer. Can't recall. If so, then you might as well plan on rebuilding them. Being laid off late last year pretty well killed the whole deal but I think things would have been more feasible if he'd been willing to take the cat on trade. Either way, it's a lot of money to ask for when the boat needs some work.

Mark-just read your post and realized that it was you that was listing this boat. My guess is that neither of us realized that we were e-mailing each other. Small world. I hope I didn't dis you with my post above. I tried to post things as I remembered them. PM me if you wish.

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

Cord, no problem. Here is the scoop on the interior...it is not perfect, but above average. You can see that some panels have been replaced. (yellow is brighter on sun pad and back seat) Basically the high wear areas have been replaced. It's not ripped or sun-bakedand there is no rot. Cockpit cover is fresh and he had a custom sewn mooring cover made for it also.

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

Your brother, Pat Bentley, lied about the hours, said it had 400. When I got there, it had 1200, which was right on the hour meters, he's a liar. Significant stress cracks in the forward bow. Said entire interior was new, when only the gunwale panels were replaced with a mis-matched material. All of the chrome interior lights were rusted to the point where the chrome was flaking off on the carpet. I could go on but you get the point. The worst is that I drove 7 hours to turn around and walk away 10 minutes later. I stand behind my statements, a lot of people know who I am on the board, I'm not hiding my name. Don't waste you time unless you're not very picky.

This was twice as long this afternoon!
So how much for the boat? Post some pictures of it. You are in my price range for a project.

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

Bentley Powerboats has serviced my boats for the past 11 years and will for many years to come! Mark and Pat have always been straightforward, honest and a wealth of knowledge even when I bought my last boat and it wasn't even bought from his dealership. As for the 28 Apache I saw it last year in Marks shop and it looked pretty sharp for a boat its age. Besides if you like a 28 Apache its not like there are a whole pile of them around!!!

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

Just looked at Saber28's comments and i just realized you looked at this boat 6 years ago!! You don't suppose in that amount of time the current owner might have fixed some of the issues. Like the tri-axle Eagle trailer under it! Saber needs to relax!!!!

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

Saber's comment are important, Brandon wanted to know about the boat. His first hand knowledge of looking at the boat be it 6 years ago are very important. I have seen his personal boat and he diffently knows what nice is, if a boat was trashed at one time I would want to know. Steve

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

I just think a better response would have been " I do not know what the boat looks like now but I looked at it 6 years ago and it needed some work and I past on it." The point I am trying to make is that by the looks of this thread no one knows the CURRENT condition of the boat.

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

yep, i'm picky.just ask jim and doug from saber! i also realize that i looked at it back in 98. maybe someone did repair some or all of it, the point i'm trying to make here is that pat bentley LIED repeatedly about the facts about the boat. we are not talking differences in judging its condition, we are talking about LIES such as "it has about 400 hours" when right there on the hour meters was over 1200!!!!!!. back in 1998!!!! this boat was used AND abused. its to bad really it definately looks good in pictures. at the time i looked at it, it had apparently sat outside in the snow all winter and mildew was everywhere.

some of its problems were not easily repairable such as the significant stress cracking in various spots.

bottom line is i'm just trying to let a buyer know that this boat has had a rough life

Being not takin care of , left out in the winter and only running 70 with 502 twins, I'd say it either needs rebuilds or it's water logged.

Re: Info on this 28 Apache

low 70's is about right.
yes , for a 28 ft. boat they are heavy , which also gives you a very solid ride in nasty water.
another thing , its the biggest 28 ft. boat i know of.
no beak or intigrated swim platform bs on these boats.
until you see one or ride in one , its hard to understand how big they are.
they were NOT designed for smooth lake boating.
