everyones got their own taste. Personally i think the 39 gtx was the best looking V at the show. IF i had the cash and wanted a V thatll be my boat.

Yes,

We were in the lead until I lost RPM in the Port motor (PCV valve). The French guys beat us at the line! You were 3rd, Invensys broke (drive), Outlaw spun out (twice!) several Fountains followed as did Brett.

That's the kind of answer I figured I was going to get... :drink:

After all, this thread was to "state the facts".

I agree, the fastest boat doesn't always win.

As long as you have a strong, well set-up hull and a great crew that can work together in the cockpit, that may be all you need. Apparently that is all Wild Child needed..... ;)

You can't blame that solely on OL.

You must remember, Outerlimits will build the boat to the customer's needs.
So if a said customer wants some specialized leather from the other side of the globe to finish off the entire interior, then they will provide it. And yes, that costs big money. If the customer wants to pay for it, then hell, why not give them what they want?
That is probably why you see so many satisfied OL owners. They get what they want. They are part of the boat building process throughout. They become a part of it because they are they ones picking out the colors and putting the finishing touches on their one of kind boat they are buying.

Wasn't this thread ABOUT the fastest in a straight line? Either will can set the record, it seems to a horsepower race now for thi9s kilo record.

I like both boats, too, I have no favorite in this contest.

Speaking of the record holder, here is a piece from an email sent to PB Mag from Noah Legear clipped from SnF.com:

"You mention Reggie Fountain building larger boats after being a Factory Tunnel Driver for Mercury. Did you also know that Reggie got on the factory team with the assistance of Sylvan "Ham" Hamberger who was Vice president at Mercury . Ham told me Reggie called about not being a team driver til he finally got him the spot which was previously Bob Herrings just to shut him up. Did you also know that if not for David Lee of Lee Craft boats, there likely would be no Fountain Boats as David was involved in the making of the first molds. If you know Reggie and his personality and I mean no disrepect by this statement, you know money is what drives him more than desire or so I have heard."

From a man who apparently goes way back with some of the old outboard drivers.
Main discussion about how PB doesn't cover more of the Outboards in their Mag....

One thing for sure, Reggie is driven!!! :drink:

Funny thing about this 18 year old outboard boat....

Throw on a new style Herring prop and the damn thing is STILL faster than the 2000 hp "World's fastest Vee Bottom" (s).

I remember that article in Powerboat. I remember thinking it was strange to see that much negative trim at those speeds.

What an achievment. Talk about putting your life on the line for a record.

#1....hydros need negative trim for top speed as the prop....not the boat....carries the stern...and you must drive the bow down to....but not in contact with....the water. These truly efficient and airborn hulls are much more difficult to drive....... and understand..... than simply putting endless horsepower into a simple monohull......regardless of how "sophisticated" the bottom design is.........or whatever BS you're buying.

#2 The boat certainly could run over 200 today.....with lighter construction....a little more length ......newer, better props and the two stroke development currently available. But, it has no "bling".....nor does it define wretched excess. Plus....it takes talent...... not money....... to drive it.

Funny thing though........two guys who could drive it....Benny Robinson...and Michael Seebold....... are currently driving Reggies Super Vee.....

Why hasent this record been challenged lately. I know it was challenged a while ago but not successful. Benny Robinson drove that boat, or one like it? I have seen an outboard hydro run 150+ in a quarter mile, I could only imagine seeing one run 200mph. The guy that designed the 2 speed lynco to work with an outboard is on to something for sure.

Benny Robertson drove Tunnel boats (see below).. the record boat is a hydroplane..... Hydros are a whole different animal.....but tunnels are no walk in the park to drive either.

Also if you noticed, the outboards are in a "fixed position" and the boat is steered with a cable steering rudder on the starboard side.

this is getting boring there are poker run Vs running 150,s why mess around for just a few mph i think its time to make a statement .....call john force and borrow a few engines detune them to 5000hp each .......10,000hp ought to make a statement and i will pay to watch!

so when you detune them to 5000HP they would be good for like 10 seconds instead of 4?

and ,, do you think that Mike or Reggie could run 20 miles up the Bay to get a cold one ,,, after the Two way Kilo pass????

These guys need to get real ,, if they are selling factory boats ,,, build it with the sink and head then put the same type Merc engines ( 1075s ) and make there statement !!

Other wise it means nothing to the average buyer!

Its the real world that we boat in ,,, the speeds they report are always wrong in the real world!!

At those speeds in stepped V hulls, unfortunately I think they'll have a funeral before they have a beer.

Speed on the water in those kinds of ways has a bad track record.

10 sec at 10,000hp i,m sure they will blowaway the record might set a few new ones too! why not there does not seem to be an engine rule ,and after a few fatal accidents they will figure out how to control the boat at warp speeds maybe we will all benefit from their exploits after all i do enjoy watching a car go 330mph in under 5 seconds and we all thought that was impossible a few years ago......lets go NITRO

It's not about how fast a boat can go with how much horsepower.......

It's about how fast it can go with how little.......

T2x you need to go to a NHRA nitro race something to be said about Xtreme excess the pro stock cars fill your bill with more speed with less power but the crowd is waiting for a 8000hp automobile that makes your bones vibrate and vision blur as it goes by

Alot of safety measures found on cars today is a result of auto racing and accidents resulting from it. Maybe the manufacturers should push the envelope and we may see good come from it.
