Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
I noticed it at the Miami show. But, if you look hard enough at his ad in the new PRA mag you can see it. May explain why hes ready to blow over during that 177 kilo pass.

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
i guess u can think about it either way. it allows the stern of the boat in a sense to sit back, but, at the same, lifts the rest of hull/running surface out. Think about how Hook makes a boat run flatter almost pitching the nose down. A boat w/ rocker will obviously run w/ more bow lift than a boat conventional bottom will = slighty less wetted running surface = more speed = KILO RECORD. :D

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
Rumor has it Benny wont drive the fountain .like an eggshell he keeps making the same boat faster.OL sell them, makes the next one faster.
|
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
Does anyone have any guesses on who's going to be the fastest? Any estimates on speed?
|
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
I always thought that having rocker on a step bottom/speed master boat isn't very good.

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
jest once you are right it is and improvmnt over the old bottom . 30 spec you need to go to fountain thier is no built in rocker in a fountain . as for unstable no in this life time, that boat was on rails at 177. i and a lot of 0so people were standing on the dock watching it robbie :drink:

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
I still haven't seen any video of ANY Outerlimits at any speed over 140mph.
Actually, anything over 100mph would be a start. Not a slam on OL or anything, I just haven't seen it. I am hoping someone will post a video of an OL running FAST. . . . I have seen the Fountain boat running FAST - pretty impressive. |

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
Speaking of high-speed Poker Run boats . . . I would LOVE to see the Fountain 42 "race hull" in a Poker Run configuration.
By "race hull", I mean like the 'fastest V-hull' configuration. Kinda like Firewater, or ZNETIX, or Rio Roses, but with an open cockpit, as opposed to the canopy configuration. The new 42 PR just isn't quite the same look. |

clip 2 about 10 secs into it they show a clip of XXX running in the cockpit and the gps is ticking from 139 to 140.... |

Clip one had some good running footage as well! :drink:
Thanks for the link Sean! |
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
A top fuel motor won't live long enough to push a kilo boat.
No way to keep it cool long enough. It'll melt hard parts. I suppose you could back it down to 3,500 horses, and start it on low nitro and as you need more, use a second set of injectors to feed a more concentrated dose. But remember, a 6,500 horse nitro motor melts the plugs every run. Pistons are flexing like jello, and valve faces are glowing like a light bulb - and this happens after 4 seconds. Turn down the wick a bit so that the top end parts will make it for 30 seconds, and now you'll have block temperatures that will puddle into the hull. I'm all for big power, and an alcohol motor is a great idea. But a nitro motor in a kilo boat? It'd take some serious re engineering. |
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
well we are headed to straight alky engines now so where do you stop?alky is better than gas BUT a 10%nitro boost would be just a tick faster......

The new 42 PR just isn't quite the same look. The new 42 Poker Run is basically a race boat. Sit-down, no cabin, full stagger, about half the sheer of the pleasure version. Well into the 100's with the new 600's. |
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
So then the Fountain is faster with less power??? What will a 39 or a 42 Outelimits run with that power????
|

I think OL claims 110 for the 39 quattro w/ 600's |
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
they say the PR will hit 100 w/ 525's.....
|
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
As of two separate editions of tests in Powerboat magazine(March 05 and April 05) the Outelimits 39 Quattro with staggered Mercury Racing 525's ran 96.9mph at 5400 rpm's on radar and 95.8mph on the GPS. The 42' Fountain Poker Run Edition with the same power ran 98.7mph on radar and 96.8 on GPS.
If anyone wants to go by tests it appears that the Fountain is about 2mph faster with equal power.   |
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
doesn't the quattro have a cabin?
wouldn't a better match be a GTX? 37 or 39? |
Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts
were they tested the same day, same conditions...... don't think so...
