that is what i was thinking.... so what is more impressive a full cabin boat going 95.8 or a no cabin boat going 96.8?

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts

I figured being that the Outerlimits measures in at a length of 39'11" and ways 8800lbs being made from epoxy I believe that the fact that the Fountain does not have a cabin the epoxy, shorter in length and lighter overall weight would make up for it having a cabin. The Fountain measures centerline at 42' and weighs in at a much heavier 10,300lbs and is built with vinyl-ester and various grades of woven and knitted fiberglass.

So with those stats at hand it seems that Fountain is faster even being bigger, heavier and using advanced composites. So when you are going to take stabs at me for stating the obvious know a little something more about what you are talking about when you bash someone that may unfortunately know a little more then you.

Man am I starting to feel like T2X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They also stated that the "X" was so high in the OL it was hard to get on plane. It would be nice to have some sort of a cabin in the 42PR.

Back4More,

Having sat in one before at a few boat shows I think some kind of cabin could be put it but it be more of a bunny pad rather then couches or a head.

They use woven roving in their boats???

I got to know Dennis, how do you know this? Most tours won't let you near the laminating room....

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts

a 42 PR weighs the same as a 42 lightining w/ blower motors and a cabin?

http://www.powerboatmag.com/2004test...in_results.pdf

i have seen three tests for the OL and all three weights were different for the exact same boat "no discipline"...??? and then a 42 L with cobras and a cabin weights the same as a no cabin 525 boat? i bet if you put both on the scale they aren't that far apart in the 9k range...

not to mention the fountain is narrower...

OL beam is 9'2, fountain beam is 8'6....

If you feel like i was taking stabs at your info, too bad, get over it... the bottom line is unless you have both boats with the same power on the same day and running in the same water it is a moot point to argue about 1-2 MPH either way...

plus T2x does know what he is talking about...

I was thinking of buying a 42 PR for myself, but I want at least a 1/2 cabin. The PR just doesn't have the height to do it (IMO). To have the PR you need 2 boats - 1 for cruising/sleeping and the PR to haul azzzzzzzzzz

you are the one that got your ego bruised when i just asked if it had a cabin or not.... and then you started quoting powerboat which pretty much ended the conversation of who is really smarter anyway... don't drink too much tonight, you don't have too many braincells to spare buddy ..... :drink: and i don't take this personal at all, i don't own a vee and probably won't anytime soon, but i do know how to compare a sit down, cut down deck version versus an equivalent boat...

but if you do know more than me, how does the 42 PR weigh the same as the 42 Lighting? just using your facts and the fountain website? :drink:

And they allowed them to print that?

You need to find out where Fountain is using the woven roving fiberglass in their boats and why....

It just doesn't make much sense to mix that material with other better forms of glass other than to build thickness quickly. Woven fibers loose some strength from the friction every time they rub each other in the manufacturing process of the cloth. Knitted fibers are stronger because they do not endure the friction while being made.

This really surprises me TRACIE...

Re: Outerlimits Working Hard On New Spped Record The Facts

you get what you pay for in a fountain.... and that includes woven glass... but you get a free gold chain and satin jogging suit, so it is all good.. :D

Sean H,

Easy there boy. You getting to hot head for no reason at all. Relax man I not trying to pick an argument with you. My stats all came from Powerboat Magazine. Simply stated this bickering on who is better and so forth really means nothing in the long wrong. Both companies build great boats but I just think that if you are going to compare Apples to Apples at least let the Apples be very close to the equivalent of one another. The reason for me posting the stats from Powerboat was to show that the 39 is a smaller boat then the 42. the Fountain winds up being a 39 without the platform and the Outerlimits without its platform may be 38'(Not to sure on that though). Reggie has always gotten away for selling a 42 when in measuring stats it is actually a 39' but then take the beak away and it is probably who knows. A very good friend of mine once told me that no matter what a manufacturer says the length is it is never that real length. The length should be the amount of running surface at the bottom of the hull.(Good friend of Starkey's as well). Just trying to add facts to the the thread but I guess facts were turned into people thinking I was taking jabs at them. OH WELL!!!!!!!!!!

I have read and watched and viewed personally many things on Outerlimits. Mike and his entire Family and Staff build great high performance powerboats and at no way am I knocking that. His family has been involved in the high perfomance industry even before Outerlimits was a reality for him. I hope they continue to do what they have been doing for along time but I still would like to see Outerlimits make a return to the Offshore Racing World. Hopefully one day they will.

or an outboard cat doing 127?

This is all rubbish anyway....... The fact that a massive monohull can go 97 or 99 mph with almost 1100 horsepower, using engines that can't be run wide open for any length of time..... but has a full galley...complete with a micro wave that explodes when the seas reach 5 feet...somehow does not define performance boating for me.

Tracie,

You keep saying that, but in reality Outerlimits has never left.

There always seems to be at least one of their boats out there.

Here just as recent as the 2004 season:

Starkey,

P class or Poker Running does not count as the type of racing I am refering to as it is not a level playing field with rules that regulate each manufacturer from being more competitive than another and the second post of pics are from years prior. OL hull have changed a bit since then and I would just really like to see them on the race course go for the checkered flag once again.

trust me, i wasn't the one getting worked up you came out firing with the who is smarter than who..... and apples to apples would mean the fountain would have to update their technology in their hull manufacturing process and put a cabin in that boat and see what happens...

but i digress... i am a cat guy and neither one of those boats does anything for me really..... :D

and i think his name is sharkey and not starkey....

tim here we go again . poker runs, straight racing, now circle racing with a "p" are not the real deal. if it was a fountain with reggies hair glued all over the hull the fuc?ing boat could run upside down and it would be ok. in tracys eyes if it is not a fountain it aint ****. last time i looked ol is racing and i hope they have a great year and i hope every other team does great also but i hope all beak boats lose! dennis has made me hate fountains at this point!
