Viosport is one of my sponsors on last years IMCO boat and this years SPIDERMAN boat. Viosport makes a GREAT product and the H2o Cam, is completely waterproof. I use it as a helmet cam and the videos are awesome! Completely different perspective than your normal fixed mounted camera in a raceboat. If you're interested, I am a dealer for Viosport.

I gotta have one of these. We need an OSO discount. Whats the best recorder to use with this set up?

Re: Video camera for boats

I will look into what I could sell you all cameras for on OSO, but I can't promise anything until I speak with Viosport, which I will do. I will keep you posted.

Ref. what they record to? Basicly, most any camcorder that has a AV In/Out jack. Viosports website has a list of the cameras that work best.

Above is a link to which cameras work with the Viosport cams.

I will be back with more info.

Re: Video camera for boats

Some of you guys that just want to play around with this please do a Google search on "Bullet Cam".

You will find some nice inexpensive "throw away" water resistant cameras that will do the same function or very close for half the money. I like the custom machined enclosure and Sony guts above not to mention the nice coil cable but if your just toying around with this you may check out my suggestion. I can mount a camera in almost anything and call it custom but it doesn't change the specs.

If your into professional video and want "Broadcast" quality then the high end gyro style equipment is for you.

The above suggestion on going to a pawn shop for a $100 camcorder is very good! If it breaks or gets wet throw it away. If your interested in the high end stuff then you will need a portable hard drive storage device, they are starting to show up in the consumer market.

I'm in the high end CCTV business so I do know a thing or two about this :snide:

Have Fun

Re: Video camera for boats

I know most people wouldnt do this, but I have actually used shrink wrap tape and taped my camcorder to the deck for some killer footage. Obviously, I was a little nervous about doing it, but after a couple times I realized there was no way the camera was going anywhere, that tape is tough. :D
