LOL!! Yeah isn't that thing something else? It didn't race - it was just there - and it did have triples. I remember it making a big impression as a kid. It's a 38' Signature like in the next ads...

This exact race is why I love fast boats! I was a pre pubescent teen walking these docks of the Bay Club. You could smell the testosterone emanating from the racers. The day before, I met the racers as they pulled thier rigs into the Fashion Island court yard. Old man Nordskog, Rocky Aoki, and Betty Cook were happy to hoist me up into thier machines.
Thanks for the trip back in time. I was not dreaming...

I just spotted this thread....very nice, thank you my boy.
A few weeks after this race in 1979, Sandy Satullo and I competed in the cross country Cannonball car race, that ended in southern California just before the Formula 1 race at Long Beach.
We were invited to go to one of the parties for the Formula 1 drivers given by the Long beach Grand Prix association. Some of the volunteers that worked the Bushmills race in Newport Beach were there and made such a fuss over the offshore drivers telling everyone how exciting the sport was.
I think it was the first time some of the Formula 1 drivers got second billing. But, we certainly enjoyed our 15 minutes of fame.
So thank you again to all the great people of southern California that help out putting on these great motor events.
