Can the USCG invoke a salvage ? ? ?

I'm not sure. You would think if they can seize property, they can invoke a salvage.

I'm sure someone will chime in. I read in a amgazine in last year about a 50-60ft boat in FL that ran aground, no big deal, never abandoned or anything but the salvage co hit the guy with a 60k bill based on the value.

The original owners paid (insurance) to salvage the boat. They still own it.

This is what I would have thought... it's not like the boat was abandoned or left for salvage, from the sounds of it there was an ongoing effort to save it from destruction.

Yea, they were trying to save it from the begining. But the sad thing was the waves washed over a bunch of property from the ship and people were taking it from the beach trying to claim "law of the sea"...basically whatever's found abandoned is free for the taking.

The boat was actually built only two years ago at the cost of 8.5 million. It was one of two built.

Tank, is this your replacement for the Baja you sold? Well, at least it's easy on gas.
