(Tall Ship) Ship Wreck in front of my house! Pics...
I got home from work today and saw this in front of the house. The swells have been big lately and there is a gnarly current running south. The boat was full of students (sailing student) when it was coming in and struck a sand bar outside the harbor. This turned into loosing a motor and running aground. 
We grabbed the 13' Boston Whaler and jammed out the harbor to get some pics before dark.
This is one of those hystoric tall ships that sail all over the world and teach kids how to sail and what not. They are real common back east (Boston and New York) but a few of them visit from time to time here (southern Cal.).
The waves were WORKING this ship and it was holding together real well. It was built right. The mast was swinging down past 45 degree angle and whipping back and nothing has broken yet (past 4 hours). I don't know how they plan on getting this thing off the beach but they are wasting precious time.
Sorry for the poor pics but it was getting dark.

I saw it on local TV as well.
That just really sucks. She is a beautiful old piece, and somebody screwed up ROYAL. . . . at least all the students got off safe. As she was moving toward the jetty ( and pretty much certain destruction ) with every wave, I had to change the channel. . . . heartbreaking, to say the least.

You should've seen it in person....It is heart wrenching. I'm no sailor but it is sad to see this type of damage to any boat, especially one that is as beautiful as this.
I don't know how they plan on getting it off the beach. It's just getting closer every minute and digging in more. If it gets too close the only option is to cut it up. I walked out there a while ago and they have it lit up with huge lights but no one is doing anything to get it moved. We'll see I guess. Like I said though, it's holding up suprisingly well considering the circs.
