POLL: New lettering

I finally am getting the CG Documentation all done. What do you think of this. It is designed by Sticky Fingers design. It will go on the boat next week.

Looks good but is Powerplay Racing the name of your boat or are you putting the name on the sides.

Powerplay Racing is the name of the boat. It is on the sides also.

I don't like it. If you are "in love" with the name, that's cool. My boat is named TWISTED. I wanted a name that DIDN'T imply sex or speed, but then I have a "sleeper".

I would suggest that you make the letters of the name MUCH LARGER. Mine are seven inches tall. You want people to see the name from 100 feet (or more). The letters of the home port can be much smaller.

Just my two-cents... (just remember you asked for it. )

is that already on the boat or is that just the computer version? the photo looks blurry but the letters don't... i like the looks, but i also would make it a little bigger...

I agree that the letters need to be bigger

Re: POLL: New lettering

Guys,
Thanks for all your opinions. The boat has been documented with the Coast Gurad since new in 1997, so I kep the name (Powerplay Racing) the way it is. It's on the whole side of the boat anyway. :D

The lettering is not on the boat yet....it's the designer's proof to see what it looks like. The letters are 4" tall (minumum by the Coast guard standards) and overall 28" long. If I go taller, it distorts the lettering. So I really can't go taller

how bout doing the lettering on the back the same as it is on the sides. outlined in color with white in the middle?

Steve,
I thought of doing that---but you wouldn't see the black outlining the letters in the black area on the transom...might look weird.

Since its already on the sides I would leave the name off the back. I think if the name is on the sides the CG doesn't require it on the back.

All you need is the home port.

You are correct, but......the name and hailing port have to be together and readable. I don't think the hailing port would look that good on the side, nowhere to really put it on there because alot of the word racing is in the water. The back is he only logical place.

No, my boat was built to race, but never was raced. Dan raced a different boat. (might be the Twocan race boat he raced)

Looks good.

What did the previous owner do about displaying the hailing port for documentation ??

If you look really close at the pic in my first post, you can see it says Pompano Beach, Fla. on the transom between the exhaust. (It's hard to see)I need to take that off asap!!
The second owner never changed the hailing port.

I need to put the documentation # in the bilge somewhere also...I haven't seen it yet.

mine is loacated on the bulkhead in front of the motors.

Re: POLL: New lettering

I'd make the hailiong port a lot smaller--the name of boat is cool looking but gets overshadowed by port name

I prefer a more balanced look... adjust the size and position to allow for the stern light.

That does look good!I do like it...... the only problem is trying to get around that light in the middle of the boat. The light is approx. 3.5" tall. From the top of the light to where the curve--is only 2.75" tall. From the bottom of the light to the rubrail is approx. the same distance. There isn't a way to get around the light without jacking up the letters.

I wish I could do it the way you did it. The letters would only be 2.50" tall at best. If they were 4'' each, they would be touching

Gerard,

I had a similar situation (used same graphics guy too). I decided that it wasn't so bad if one of the letters went over the transom light. I like jayboats idea. In fact, if you made the letters even larger than his suggestion, then the interference with the light would be less noticable. You can make the Lake Havasu smaller to give you more room. Here's what I ended up with.

good luck, oh and by the way, you would be wise to take your boat out of GS (IMHO).

Jody,
I think you are right. I will have Sticky try to design like Jayboats idea. Did you sell the beast yet? That's alot of boat!

Jayboat,
Thanks for the idea. I will follow up with this and see how it comes out. :drink:
