Driv OIL/ Amasoil anyone use it??

I am in the process of rebuilding my drive 350hours, anyway was told I should look into using Amasoil drive oil instead of merc High perf. Anyone know about this or shed some light??

Thanks

Teague used to send Amsoil out with his upgraded drives, don't know if he still does or not. I have used it in my outboard lowers and have seen a decrease in temperature and shavings on the magnet over the Merc Hi-perf gearlube. I have used the 80W-90 in the past. Just recieved some of the new 75W/80W-90 Marine Gear Lube. It is supposed to work even better in our application, it will still work when subjected to 10% water contamination per Amsoils catalog. It's worth a try.

Jim at www.nwoffshore.com is a dealer and has researched this subject, you might want to contact him.

Just my $.02

I started using it when I read an article in power boat mag, on how to change your drive oil. The mechanic was with merc and he was putting Amsoil in the drive. At least the bottle had a Amsoil sticker on it. Try it.

My question is why use it. I've always used the Merc blue/green stuff without a problem???

Why is it better than the Merc stuff. I'm just wondering. Is it more expensive or cheaper than the Merc?

Supposedly, the big draw is that it doesnt heat up / break down as much as the Merc stuff does, letting the drive run a little cooler. I personally dont know that as fact though, I dont have it in my boat. I did just switch my street car and my tow vehicle over to all Amsoil fluids though. All the talk on car & truck forums / boards is positive.

I read in the archives that Redline Shock Proof Heavy was the best way to go. Is Amsoil better?

Been running Amsoil AGL 80W-90 for years. It's still available, just bought a gallon this month.

I ran the Redline Shockproof Heavy. I have to say one thing about the Redline is that it clings to what ever it contacts with.
I have since switched to Amsoil, at the recommendation of my drive specialist, when I purchased a new XR.
There is a new thread in Tech Q&A in regards to the new Amsoil product.
At any rate, there are at least four different lubes from four different manufacturers that are great products. Check out the thread.

We run amsoil. Had a friend that developed a water leak into his drive last season. He ran that way for 35 hours (duh, don't even ask why). But when we looked at his fill container it was light chocolate colored.

Tore down his drive this winter and replaced the bad seal. There was no damage to his drive. He is glad he was running amsoil, and will forever now.

Does running non merc lube do anything to the warranty if there is a claim?

Re: Driv OIL/ Amasoil anyone use it??

It will void your warranty......If your warranty period is up then use what ever you want
