Default Who knows their Volvo motors? 5.7 questions.

Just picked up another boat. It has a 1996 5.7 Gi in it. 250 hp with TBI. Does anyone know the internals of this engine? Forged or cast crank, pistons, etc? I see that same year they also made a GSi with 280 hp that had higher compression ratio. And the new GXi is 320 hp with MPI. Are these the same "base" motors or totally different bottom ends?

Thanks

Nothing forged. They all have the same internals.

So all the 5.7 motors have the same internals? Even the new 300+ motors have cast internals?

Thanks. So, with cast internals, how well do the 5.7s hold up to supercharging at low(5 lbs) boost?

It would be a cast disaster

I'm with JCPERF, probably not a good idea.

I'm confused a little. Aren't the Merc and Volvo 5.7s the same motors? Lots of people supercharge their Merc 350 mags. Just trying to clarify. Thanks for your help.
