Mercruiser 525SC blower service

I'm wondering how much gear oil is in the Merc 525SC blower and how often is it to change and how can I change it. Thank's for every help!

I forget the volume, but it's not much.
On the front of the blower, there's an allen head plug. Fill to that level. There's a fill plug (allen head) on the top of the front cover.
If I remember right, there's only one plug on the back cover. Fill to that level.
To get the lube out, use a syring, turkey baster, etc and a small tube to suck it out.
I changed mine every year. The pressure from the blower will push air + gas past the seals and contaminate it.

When I had those motors I changed it when I did the drives....Once at the end of every season.

The front will be about 6-8 oz. and the rear will be about 4 oz. You should change the oil at least once a year depending on how much use the boat. The front gear case uses a dip stick for the oil level. Unscrew the dip stick and wipe clean. Then insert the dip stick but do not thread it in. Just go till the treads hit. The oil should be to the groove about 3/8" from the bottom of the stick. The rear has a 1/4" pipe plug and the oil should be about the middle of the hole.

Weiand used a 80w-90 gear oil with a gl-5 rating. We however are now only using Red Line Shock Proof oil (Red not the green oil) in the 525 and 575 blowers. It seems to coat and stick to the gears and bearing better and offers much better protection then the standard gear oils. It will also help to quite the gears if you have any play due to the gears being worn alittle.

That's excellent feedback on the Red Line lube, Ron. Welcome to OSO! Lou
