496 Mag HO Spark Plug Gap

What is the proper gap for this motor?

Also, Do you guys replace with the platinum plugs that come in it stock or go with standard plugs? The platinum replacement plugs from Merc are around $16.00...NGK platinum plugs are around $9.00.

Please give comments.

Isn't the gap printed on the stock cover (plastic pc over the flame arrestor)? It is on my 350 MAG

the plugs that come in the engine are NGK so if you found the # somwhere else fro less go for it, Merc can be be pretty proud of their stuff sometimes (well most of the time) I believe the plug gap is 0.060" but look it up to be sure and don't trust whats on the plastic cover, They have incorrect info on them alot of times.

The gap should be .60, the original plugs are Denso, and can be purchased at the local GM dealer far cheaper than the Merc. dealer.

That is correct. Even cheaper at sparkplugs.com.

Interestingly enough, one of our HO owning club members just bought plugs from a buddy of his through Merc using their part number. He paid about $12 wholesale. ($16 and change retail.) The plugs he received are AC Delco. That plug is available at Advance Auto for less than $6 each. Ouch!
