Low Coolant Light??
 

Ok this is a car question, but some folks on the board are some of the smartest :D :D
The low coolant light keeps coming on in my Corvette. (Yes its full) I changed the sensor that is mounted in the middle of the radiator. When I replaced it I would think coolant would come out of were the sensor plugs into. How do these things work? I was guessing the coolant has to touch the sensor which grounds it out and closes a circuit?

don't know corvettes well but same sensor on camaro is in contact with coolant which is why it is sealed with an o-ring. Bought 2 before getting good one.

Ok that is how this one is. When you pulled the sensor out did antifreeze come out the hole? I am getting a drip that why I was thinking its getting no coolant do ground the circut??

Coolant should run out, But with cap on it creates a vacume,most time sludge gets on sensor, clean out hole in rad. what year vet?

Its an 1988 45K miles. I had the cap off when I put the new one in with the same results. I did not find any grime or anything and I can not put my head down there without pulling the engine :eek: I thougth antifreeze should come running out of there like a stream.... Still would like to know how this thing works..

Jumper the wire to ground and see if the light goes out. if not, the low coolant lamp driver module is whacky or the wiring to the module is open circuited. GM released service bulletins on that problem in 1988 (tsb# 88-42-6B). There could also be air leaks at the hose that connects to the overflow tank allowing air back in as the engine cools down. If you have an ohm meter, you can test the sensor to see if it sees the proper coolant lever. 10k ohms is good, 50k ohms or over is low coolant or no contact between sensor and coolant. Test coolant level module for proper power and ground : pin A = battery voltage key on, pin c = ground, pin f should be 10k ohms with sensor connected and pin e( harness side should be battery voltage key on) and pin e (module side) should output battery voltage if coolant level is ok and other pins are as stated with key on.
