Gear swap
 

How much grief is it to swap gears in an OM style Bravo?
What other parts do you have to change?
I currently have a 100 hour 1.5 ratio and am looking to trade gears for a 1.36 set aprox same hours. Behind 310HP 454
Anyone interested?

Why would you want to do that????????

The only reason to go to a 1.36 is because you've run out of prop options.

Cheaper to change props.. everyone seems to be switching from 1:36 to 1.5 these days. Should be a direct swap if you have x gears in your OM case. But much more money than a prop after new gears, labor, etc.
100hrs on a set of X gears, they should just be getting broken in!!
So why, is my question?

IF and I mean IIIIIFFFF you decide to change out your gears, I have a brand new set of 136 (unused) om gears I will trade you straight up for your used 150's [email protected] And Mr. Gadgets is the one to send it to....for the gear swap work :D That was fast..1.36 sold... How about some 1.65 om new???

The reason is I have a BIII and would like to go from a 2.0 to a 1.81.
I am running out of prop with 30's.

Rev,
With your setup you should be able to just swap the gears. Easier said than done, but that is the basics of it. Besides normal setup, just the preload on the pinion bearings and you will be in pretty good shape. If you were running more power, I would say to lash the upper gear set. If you get gears without the bearings, you will need to install bearings and the spacer between them.. If you have more questions, it would be easier to discuss it on the phone.

Thanks Mr. Gadget. I may take you up on your offer of advice as I am in British Columbia.
I have 20 years of mechanic experiance but not on outdrives.
I am looking for 60-65 mph going from 50.
I think after that I am back to a BI style drive.
I should be about 500 HP when all said and done.
Are there still offers to swap gears?
Does the # 28 manual give a procedure for lashing gears?
