Engine Harness Adapter Needed
1 Attachment(s)
I had some work done in engine compartment and noticed last weekend that they didn't use a solid mount for the engine wiring harness plug as in attached picture.
I'm not even sure what it's called but I'd like to buy a pair and remount those connectors rather than just cable-tie them to something. Anybody know what I'm describing and where I can purchase? |
Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
I thought Hardin Marine had them, but I can't find them now in their catalog. Looks like a prime candidate for a 1/8" stainless steel barstock, a vise or brake to bend it over, a hole saw and a drill. My boat is full of custom-made bracketry. It's cheaper, fits better, and lasts longer in most cases. You can get small quantities of either 304 or 316 stainless at www.onlinemetals.com.

Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
I'm looking for the connector "thing" that is actually goes between the male and female connector that is in turn attached to the bracket--
Am I still talking "pig latin"? Obviously I'm not an engineer or techy-- Thanks for replies |
Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
I think I have a couple of those brackets you can have. I dont have any other the plastic clamp thingies though if thats what you are talking about. Email me and Ill send you a pic of them.

Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
Looks like what you are talking about is the wiring harness to the dash. Mercury sells them to boat builders. The end that is modified is a complete wiring harness all the way to the dash. Thats probably why the mechanic did that instead of replacing the entire boat harness.
The engine wiring harness looks stock. |
Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
I have seen motors with the Harness coming in from the back of the motor ...how is that done ? just buy a longer Harness ? sure looks better than the Harness crossing both motors .....

Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
I think we've broken the code--the connector on the engine has that square piece with the four mounting holes molded as part of the connector. Back to Plan A--flourescenet tie wraps it is. THanks anyway.

Are you looking for this part? #2?
Check BAMs website here http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...CAL+COMPONENTS |
Re: Engine Harness Adapter Needed
Fred and pachangalpina--
Thanks for diagrams--the "appliance" I was hoping to find is attached to #23 and screws into part #2. It also looks like it's part of the plug casing itself. My harness is A-OK so I don't want to go thru that agony just to neat'en up a minor rigging problem. I've reached a point where I kind of like the flourescent tie raps--poor mans bling-bling. |
