Need Help Connecting HEI to shift cutout
Engine and electrical Guru's
My buddy is trying to fiqure out how to connect his HEI distributor to the shift interupter to be able to shift in and out of gear with his alpha one. The engine is a 350 mag and doesn't have the thunderbolt set up what so ever. Any help or ideas would help get his Donzi in the water. Brian |
Re: Need Help Connecting HEI to shift cutout
Connect one wire to the tach lead wire on the distributor. Run this wire to the shift switch..hopefully you have a switch on the shift bracket with two wires coming out of it. Connect it to one side of the switch, then run the other wire from switch to ground. Shifting should trigger the switch and momentarily interrupt the ignition.
Good Luck |

Re: Need Help Connecting HEI to shift cutout
If it's a Delco EST (Marine HEI) system, the shift interrupt switch used is a normally closed swith and is not connected to the tach lead (- side of coil). It is connected to the Ignition Control (IC) circuit. When triggered during shifting, the switch opens (interrupts) the IC circuit, preventing the timing signal generated by the ECM from reaching the ignition module.
