What weight oil

Hi all
I am wondering what weight oil everyone is using and why?
I have a basically stock 95 Gen V 454 (volvo).
I purchased the boat 2 yrs ago with less than 100 hrs on the clock. When I purchased it the yard changed the oil and put straight 30 in. My pressure was 40 @ cold idle, 30 warm idle and warm 65 at 4500rpm.
Last year I chaged to 20-50 Mobil 1 and I get 60 cold idle and 75+ at 4500. Right after a hard run the pressure drops to 45 @ idle but goes back up to 60 after a couple of minutes when the oil cools down. I am thinking I am running too thick a oil
What do you guys think?
I want to keep synthetic in the pan but I don't know if a 10w30 or 10w40 is a good choice. You are limited in the available weights with synthetic.

Re: What weight oil

I think you could mix the mobil 20-50 and mobil 10-30 to lower the viscosity a little.

For a stock 454 Amsoil or Redline 15W-40 is fine. You can use 15W-50 Mobil-1 Goldcap too. Mobil-1 20W-50 V-Twin is a thick oil that holds it's viscosity and won't shear down. Unless you race or have a hopped up engine it is heavier than you may be needing. I do know some who use a 10W-40 synthetic as well. I did in my small blocks and it works just fine.
