SSM III Transom assemblies are interchangeable

I heard that I can but a SSMIIIA into the SSMIII transom assembly. Am I able to put anyother SSM in that same #3 drive assembly or just IIIa's

III and IIIas only differ by stronger bell housing, slightly heavier gimbal, and I think the hinge pins are larger. A III, IIIa or V should fit on the gimbal.

The Hinge pins are bigger on a 3A bellhousing, and the ring is a little different. The drive mounting studs, lube port, etc. are the same.

That makes a good deal on a boat with ssm3 sound better, at least if I have problems with it, I can upgrade without to much trouble.
