Bravo Gimbal Tricks
First, what is the stuff to retain the bushings in gimbal ring and gimbal housing? I'm thinking red locktite (bushing retaining type). OEM stuff was like a grey epoxy, tough stuff.
Second, this is '89 Bravo. Thinking of making a bushing to bush from roller bearing OD in lower gimbal housing, to later, '96-'98, bushing OD and use the later setup. (OE roller bearing in sandy environment???!!) Pin is the same, I believe, hard anodized aluminum, .875 OD. Anybody been there? |

Just after my first post, I went out and 'routered' the transom wood and fiberglass that was inthe way of putting wrench on upper pivot pin nut, from inside of transom. And just as I had thought, I DO NOT have a 'roller bearing' at lower pivot pin. It's a white fiberglass-looking BUSHING. This is supposedly only on '96 - '98, and only on 'Magnum'. I had a 330 so I am guessing I have the 'standard' gimbal.
https://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...STEERING+LEVER Last weekend, I had pulled everything apart that I could, (except for upper pin), and the lower bushing DIDN'T look like a roller bearing; but with bellhousing and gimbal still in the way and lower pin out, I couldn't be sure. I called BAM, or mercruiserparts.com, to try to find out what the deal was with the variations, and Gary told me I was wrong, that it WAS a roller bearing.
