getting boat ready for season and noticed one prop shaft twisted, surprised boat is 32 fountain with 100 hrs with 415 hp, only out of water a few times with easy re entry, I thought bravoes where stronger than that.Has anyone run a boat with shaft twisted , does not vibrate and is straight

Re: prop shaft

JMPH,
I had a twisted propshaft last year and mine was the same way. I wasn't sure how it got that way as I NEVER air out and if I ever have, it's been a very easy/stressfree re-entry. I had mine replaced...think about metal, it's not supposed to twist...it's soft there and at the best your prop will be gone....worst the shaft will twist off and tear up your case and prop will still be gone.

Are bravos weak? Well...they are the weakest link anyway...you might want to upgrade to IMCO shafts while you have the one replaced.

Let us know which direction you go!

Re: prop shaft

Thankks Dave for reply, do you know if IMCO is a direct replacement and is it more money than a merc

Re: prop shaft

IMCO can be a direct replacement depending on the products you go with. As for pricing it depends on who you deal with for a new propshaft. I believe the MERC part is upwards of $150 for the shaft. If you have a shop that will work with you, typically the MERC part will be cheaper. I guess it depends how much money you want to spend and if you are doing the work yourself or if you are having your local shop do it.

Re: prop shaft

Thatss exactly the same as mine, I can't still beleive it, I acually have boat for sale but am going to repair before that, I know freinds of mine with more power and heavier boats and this has never hapened. I used to run a long time ago trs's with 600 hp each and never hurt a prop shaft, mind you I was easy on it.

Just took drive apart, dropped lower case and found twisted vertical drive shaft on spline at coupler, lookes like I need vertical lower drive shaft and prop shaft. If anyone has these for sale please post. Does anyone know where to buy U- joints other than merc.
