Billet Drive Caps

Ok, how difficult is it to install a billet drive cap, like the Teague or equivalent?
Does it take a drive mechanic, or can Joe-weekender do it?
Do you know if you have to shim the bearings or anything like that?
Any suggestions on which cap is best?

Thanks.

Joe can do it. 35 ftlbs is what I remember for the torque. The question is why do you need one?

Re: Billet Drive Caps

I moutned a pair of the ITS drives on my hp transom plate, so I am still using the latham steering and end caps.
The ITS drive caps have an integral tie-bar mount that simply leaves a large, unsued hole on the aft end of the cap.
Maybe I'll just mount another drive shower there...

How about a Billet Cap with a built in drive shower?

$299.95 ea, includes bearings.

34Scarab,
I always measure the cap to make sure it is the same as the one removed. There are differences, believe me.. I have seen them. Most are pretty close to stock, some are not.
One choice you have is the new XR cap that looks like your ITS cap, but without the tail and hole! It also has a steel tower and they are real reasonable..
