hour meter install?
I want to put an hour meter in my engine compartment for maint purposes. Where does one wire to get accurate readings on hOUR meter? THANKS

Re: hour meter install?
I wired mine to the choke wire.
Hooking it to the coil would work as well (The wire coming from the ignition switch). Hourmeters draw only a few milliamps of current. |
Re: hour meter install?
Anything that is hot only while the ignition on, I would think.

Re: hour meter install?
normally they are hooked to any solid purple wire (no tracers) purple wires are ignition hots. If you want to get real crazy and you have a stock mando alternator, I believe there is a terminal on them that is only hot when the engine is running, meaning if you leave the key on by accident the hour meter won't reflect it, this way it only keeps track of actual running hours. Just take a test light and figure out wich terminal is only hot with the engine running. If you hook it up this way, you need a fuse though, without it if you had a short you would burn up the alternator.
