Recharge Halon?

don't ask me how - but while admiring my new motors in a drunken haze :drink: in PIB, the glass eye got smashed & the halon released CO2 (no mess thank god) are these rechargeable or am I looking for a new one??

Wondered about that myself for when the time came. Don't know of any fire extenguisher refill place locally nor have i heard of one. Under what would one look under in the yellow pages? Perhaps the local fire department could steer me....?

MIne blew in my face .. no kidding .. thank heavens I had glasses on ....(the drinking type came very shorty after :D )

I went back to my supplier with my tail between my legs and he said "We don't bother refilling them .. just buy a new one"
So that's what I had to do .... $490 OUCH !

Re: Recharge Halon?

They don't produce Halon any more (Ozone depletion concerns).
That's probably why you're having a hard time getting it refilled.
They still sell Halon extinguishers though. I found a website with more info:

In my instance I regret to inform you it was a case of "tinker itis" .

I was trying to remove the remote control pin/lever as it was only ever going to be a fully automatic setup ...
Needless to say , it's the last time I'll f*&#k with one of them.

Yes , Liberator21 is correct .. mine was an FE241 NOT a halon type.

I'll tell ya this though .... there was not a bit of residue or mess anywhere to clean up after .. and it was a big unit that went off.

Re: Recharge Halon?

No they are not refillable. It is a D.O.T. issue and a U/L listing issue. I work for a fire extinguisher company and get asked that question all the time. I have talked to the manufactures and they cannot refill them either.

Just need to buy a new one.

Boat US or West Marine is probably your best bet. They buy so many that they get a bigger discount on them then we do.

Re: Recharge Halon?

I think some are refillable with recycled 1301 halon. Try sea-fire marine 410-687-5500. Or the web site
