Modifying lightning headers to reduce reversion
Has anyone modified lightning headers that had silent choice to lessen chanch of reversion? I went to a bigger cam this year and higher flowing heads and i have lightning headers with silent choice. I am worried about reversion because the water enters so close to the top of bend on header. I test ran motor in driveway on a stand recently with just the headers bolted on and it was pulling water back to exhaust port in head. Crocket told me the have extended the 4 " inside tube before back within a few inches of the tips ,eliminated the y pipe and ran a 5" exhaust hose over the o.d. onto a small piece of 4" hose on transom tips as a adapter letting the water enter in front of the tips. I'm either going to sell my lightning headers and buy new ones(like cmi's) or do this. I also wondered if anyone ever used vortex cones like jegs sells to help against reversion and to keep it quiet. Here's a link to the cones,it seems like a interesting idea,Smitty

Lightning makes a dry pipe set up. Can your pipes be modified in that way?

Re: Modifying lightning headers to reduce reversion
my new cam is only 1 size bigger than old cam so i think modifying the headers to work more like their standard headers(intoducing the water further down stream) will do what i need. I don't want to make boat any louder than it needs to be(I like to avoid cops and coast guard). I'm looking for ideas on modifying them but i been on phone all day and i'm being told that the lightnings don't perform as good as cmi's or emi thunders so i'm leaning towards just buying new,Smitty
