"To Change Or Not To Change....."
After yanking my boat back from the mechanics who never could fix my cold start issue (502 MPI-- I know it is related to the IAC-- I'll fix it myself!!), I launched, and got up to cruise across the lake only to have the hi-temp alarm go off and see over 200 degrees or more on the gage! Evaluation proved they forgot to install a hose clamp on the power steering cooler output hose-- it blew off and nada cooling water. My question is-- I had just 2 weeks before filled the engine with $35 worth of 15/50 Mobile 1 Extended oil. Should I drain and refill with fresh? Engine seems ok-- runs strong, no noise-- after *****ing to the mechanic, he said the hi-temp alarm sounds at 185 degrees so the oil and engine should be safe. There was no steam or knocking-- what would you do? At about what temp does Mobil 1 deteriorate and what temp does an engine break? Why can't this stuff happen at the END of summer?????
