Re: Chevy V-8 casting numbers
Russ, that's intresting. I always thought a "tall deck" was for a stroker crank to make more CI. What is the purpose of a tall deck 454?
|
Re: Chevy V-8 casting numbers
Payton,
Tall Deck 454's are Heavy Truck engines.I believe the advantage of a cylinder sleave that is .400 taller is Longer piston skirts for less piston rock and increased engine life. |
Re: Tall decks
I thought the truck, tall deck engines had a extra piston ring.
I could be wrong. |

Re: Chevy V-8 casting numbers
Hi Dave,
Not good work is kicking my A$$, no time left in the day to get any thing done. I have a short oppertunity this week to get as much done as posible. Both motors had better be back together by Sunday night!!!!!! How's the Crazyhorse doing????? |
Re: Chevy V-8 casting numbers
I can't find mine so I called merc and gave them my engine serial number off the spec sticker. They say mine is a 1997 gen VI :evilb:
I would like to find the block number, where else would they be? |
Re: Chevy V-8 casting numbers
Check out Http://www.mortec.com for a full listing of GM casting numbers (heads and blocks), the site is worth bookmarking
You'll find the casting numbers on either the port or starboard side of the shelf that the bellhouisng bolts to. |
Re: Chevy V-8 casting numbers
The boat is running very well and I removed the radar arch last weekend as the radar became inoperative. Due to my scheduled wrist fusion on Monday June 13 I'm not going to replace the radar this season. Next winter I'll purchase the Raymarine C120 GPS/radar and reinstall the arch.
Remember that Dennis at Mid-City Automotive is a great place to buy engine parts. |
