When I installed my WPM, the instructions said to use only merc. power steering fluid. Don't know why. I can tell you that the merc fluid does not have red dye and that is easier to live with.

any ATF fluid will work, I have IMCO Hyd. steering that's what they told me to use. Of course I put in Mobil 1 Syn.

I've been using regular ATF as the merc stuff is very expensive. The only getcha is that the ATF is hell on painted parts.

marine machine recommends the Mertron 3 or higher . It has the anti foaming agents in it. I use the Valvalone name brand.
