Drive/coupler noise

What would cause a knocking sound in a 7.4l/Bravo? The noise is a deep knocking and seems to be coming from the coupler area. Don't hear it constantly, but is noticable when it "comes on". I don't think it's in the engine, doesn't sound like a rod.

Check Your Adjustment On Shifter Assembley Under Hatch. It May Be Out Of Adjustment And Shifter Fork May Be Jumping Around. Or Might Be Jumping In & Out Of Gear Slightley.

Sounds like a gimbal bearing to me, if you pull the drive you can reach in and spin it, if it is at all rough change it out.
