Has anyone juiced up a Mando alternator?

Last year I bought a 135 amp single wire alternator. I have been having battery troubles since then. I attributed to the extra load I added at the time of the 135 install. I went back to my old 65 amp Mando and my output is now at 14.4 at an idle. The 135 single wire would only put out about 13.7 at 1500 rpm and only then if the battery was topped off with a shore charge. It is defective and I don't think I want to go back to a single wire.

1. If you spend a lot of time in no wake zones your battery does not charge.

2. Output seems very proportionate to RPM, not good if you just want to fast idle for 10 minute's after burning the amps for an hour or so.

Has anyone unsuccessfully had a Mando's output increased? The Mando has a removable voltage regulator. I ran some jumper wires to it and temporarily relocated it to where I could adjust the output while at fast idle. I set it at 14.5 with a good battery. Spec on it is 13.9 to 14.7 I assume the alternator or regulator would not last as long if it has had the output increased?

Don't waste your time and money tryinh to boost the output on your Mando. You will just end up with an expensive piece of junk. Most aftermarket so called high out put alternators don't put out squat at idle, especially one wires units. I would suggest a Prestolite 90a marine unit. Puts out awsome at idle, resonably priced, and made in the USA! I have never had a complaint with these. I you are interested let me know.

199.95 + SHIP. Pulley not included. Your mando pulley will fit.

These are great alternators, I have sold many many different types over the years and this is my favorite. Why you ask? Because they never ever come back. I even have two on my 42.
Check out the spec sheet:

Steve,

Do you have the dimension front to back? i would love to run mando type but wouldn't quite fit with my headers The regulator hit, so I went with one wire gm type for clearance. But as stated, these do not charge very well at low rpm.

Your link has an asterisk in place of the dimension I need.
Thanks,

Thanks Steve

I don't have my boat here, how does that compare to Mando?
I think I was lacking 3/8" for Mando to fit.
