Merc Y pipe help
 
Changing from stock Merc air silent choice to twin Corsa elect this weekend .......One engine has the metal flappers in the y pipes........the other engine doesnt have them.......first time Ive had it apart.......do I need them???????

I have VP setup and I know Volvo discontinued them for themselves, unsure about Mercruiser, I am sure someone here will know.

My merc diverters have metal flappers with rubber around the edges to prevent any clapping noise that sounds like a bad valve. This is the top Y pipe that directs exhaust through hull or down to outdrive.

Not sure about your reference to the Y pipe, if your referring to the pipes that go down to the outdrive for exhaust, they should have flappers in them as well. The old style have been discontinued as they have a tendency to breakdown and drop into the exhaust, they have been replaced and are under 100 bucks at the local dealer for the new ones....
