My Motor Builder Is Just Finishing Up My New 454 Procharger Motors. He Is Telling Me I Need New Fuel Lines From The Tank. I Have 3/8 Lines He Says I Need 1/2 Lines. Problem Is Fittings In Tank Look Like There Welded In. Has Anyone Run Accross This Problem. How Do I Increase The Fuel Line Size Without Blowing My Self Up

Ideally you need 1/2 fittings,but not always possible. I ripped the floor of my baja out 2 years ago to run bigger line to the tk,i was able to get rid of the anti-siphon restriction but with out replacing entire gas tank i couldn't plumb bigger fittings than 3/8 pipe thread into tk. I did bore out the fitting and polished it's i.d (it was a 3/8 by -10 an adapter) . Here is a option your tank bung is Welded right?

This is what I did.

If it is A 3/8 female pipe thread. that is welded. Get a male
3/8NPT brass close nipple. I went to my local hobby shop and got 15\32 brass thin wall tubes which fit perfecly into a 3/8 brass nipple. Soldered them together.
These are about 14 inches long and slide into my existing tank
bungs. The close nipple on the top threads into existing tank bung. The other end of the 3/8 sticks out of tank allowing
the hookups.
These are now my pickups and it allows me to still utilize the tank bungs ( no tank modifications) and 1\32 under a 1/2 inch pickup.

you may have dual pickups in your tank. if so, plumb them together and run 1/2 line from them.

I am re-installing my motor after upgrading it further this year,if i cannot get enough fuel thru my pickup then i am going to pull fuel tk sending unit and build a 1/2 inch pickup thru it on bench then re-install it,use original 3/8 pickup for return fitting as i am returning fuel to suction side of pump and would prefer to return it to tk,just isn't possible without doing something like i described,Smitty

I ran my returns back to the fuel filler tube. Cp performance
sells a fitting for this. I tigged stainless nipples to my filler neck after I saw the fitting they sell.

Another trick I did was measure the amount of fuel feeding
each motor by starting the engine with fuel feeds on one engine in a gallon container. ( Carb Blown Setup). Filled the gallon in 9 seconds.
I run #10 feeds with #8 returns.


Fuel Setup is critical on Blower setups!
Make sure you have enough delivery.

Take your engine builder's advice.

If you nice new motors don't get enough fuel and lean out, you'll destroy them real fast!

What warranty? He told you so ...

First I'd like to thank articfriends and caveman for all there help, both have been very helpful. Now back to fuel. Since we have possibly figured out what to do with these 1/2" fuel lines, another problem arises. My motor builder wants to put on gas / water separators. I can't find any one who sells them with 1/2" lines, the biggest gas ones I can find are 3/8" they make them bigger for diesel but not for gas. Is there anyone who sells them with 1/2" inlets for gas or can I use the diesel filters.

Both Jegs and Summit Racing (online and catalog) sell Perma Cool water seperating filters which have 1/2" fittings.

For large fuel water separators, look for large diesel units. They have 1/2" or larger fittings.

Thanks gerry I purchased 2 of the larger ones from cp performance. They come with 3/4 fittings. Thanks for the invite but I doubt I'll be in the water by then. This has been one drawn out experience sucking the life right out of me. Its funny I've been reading different threads about new motors blowing up after a few minutes ( which i had 4 do last year), threads on how long it should take for motors to be built from scratch (anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months, mine are going on 7 months), threads on procharger problems with set ups (boost pressure verses fuel pressure, boost reference, jetting, power valves, octane), . It all scares the hell out of me. I'm think I'm ready for a cruiser, this is the last try for go fast. I don't have the motor knowledge and I deffinity don't have the luck of finding anyone who really does around here. I'll give you a shout if and when I finally get in the water.
