Insurance for 24 year old?

I have a perfect driving record and a credit score well above 700, but i'm 24 years old. How hard is it going to be for me to get insurance on a powerboat roughly 33-36 feet top speed no more than 70?

Thanks!

P.S. I would love to hear any recommendations on where to search, who to call

I don't see why progressive wouldn't insure you, they do up to 500 hp per motor and 70 mph, they might surcharge you for your age or lack of experience but should insure you.

I am in the same situation that you are. I am 24 and have a 1991 forumla 311 with 502's @ 70mph. I have a clean record and pay $1400 a year through progressive. Good luck and have fun.

I always thought gas and insurance was the cheapest part of owning a boat. :drink:

Yea I went thru the same rigamorole...Im 49 with a close to perfect driving record....They wanted $3600/yr for a 24' cat with twin 300 merc outboards. The boat payments would have been less. I keep my boat on a trailer in my yard and have never insured a boat. This was the 1st one I had to finance and of course they wanted insurance. F**K that! I borrowed against the 401 and sold the vette and put the rest of my reserve into it and now I have the boat of my dreams and can afford it without insurance. Yes I am careful with it. If I stuff it into a wave I loose. All the money I save on insurance I can now put into the gas tanks, and get enjoyment out of it. Bottom line....there are alternative ways to get the $ to get that boat.

Re: Insurance for 24 year old?

Progressive is who I use. I'm 27 with a clean record. Last year 3 companies refused to insure me, said I should have more experience with a big boat. Interesting cause I never asked their opinion on my boating experience, I asked for a quote on insurance. Little did they know that I have spent my entire life on a boat on Lake Ontario, 1000 Islands, Finger Lakes, Oneida Lake, Lake George, and on and on. Oh well, I hate insurance companies, but didn't want to risk not carrying any on my Powerquest. Progressive was a third of the cost of anybody else.

I got insurance from Buzz, when I was 22 years old, with a triple engine 33' Powerplay. He will take care of you! Darren

Re: Insurance for 24 year old?

Progressive would not insure my 311 because it was more than 15 years old ....I am 52 ..never had a claim on a boat ...been boating since 1986 ...they did sell me Liability ....109.00/year ....that was pretty much a no brainer ....I could absorb the loss of the boat but you never know what some Jerk you bump into might try .....
