cheap 454 upgrades?
 

can anyone tell me what are cheap 454 carb. upgrades for better performance? i am new to this and have no clue whatsoever, i am trying to read through this forum to understand but its chinese to me. most of you guys are expert hobbyists. can anyone advise?

Nothing is going to be "cheap" but some are less expensive than others. Biggest bang for your buck is to blow them.

what i meant with cheap was that what would be a smart upgrade which would make a big difference with the money spent, lets say 1000$ per engine as a start.

$1000 upgrade???.....with no machining or major changes like pistons or cranks etc..........go and find yourself a used carb and intake.... either on classifieds or ebay......get a cam and lifter set and find a nice set of used exhaust....something better then the stock stuff and that should wake up the engine alot....anything more and your asking for trouble depending on what engine your starting with to begin with.... :)

Good exhaust to start ,cam and lifters and springs and new valve job and rejet stock carb.

Get some free flowing Dart heads....headers....intake manifold; a warmer cam....and the a Holley 750 CFM carb...

Heads...$600

Intake $200

Cam etc..... $300

Carb $300

Headers $1,000

About $2,500/engine....

Should be able to get something running around 425 HP?

What do I know????? :D

Try some 93 octane fuel. Thats about the cheapest upgrade you can make. :D From there its all uphill. !! I agree with the others. Exhaust first !! Then the race is on for the rest. Good Luck, and welcome aboard!! :drink:

Leave the engines stock unless you are ready to spend 5k each. Mybe add K&N breathers.
Best bang for the buck is to get your props labbed. For $300 a prop, you will see 1-3 mph gains most likely.
