Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

I am getting no flow to my filter and pulled a line to make sure flow is going to the outside("in arrow" side) of my filter,it is. I'm using a purolater L34631. My oil pressure is good and have run the motor several hrs this way. I thought I was just overcooling the oil and bypassed my cooler and the filter was still cool after the motor was warm. I had water in my oil from high water pressure(35+) and may have to pull the heads. I took out the outside bypass on my block Gen6 and didn't plug. Now I read in a book that that will cause the filter to fill and then just bypass the filter entirely. This must be happening to me. I thought I followed the advice I got here but either got some bad or misunderstood. It's gonna be a ***** to get the bypass replaced or plugged on the inside motor!!!If I have to replace head gskts I can do it then.
Also I think this filter has synth material and will not plug with water, anyone know better?

If you took the bypass out, no oil will go through the filter or oil cooler. It'll just go around inside the block. Use the 30# bypass or plug it completely if you have a high capacity oil system. The plug in the center is the one you want to leave out.

Here is a thread with a good picture.http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ghlight=bypass

Here's another good thread.http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...ghlight=bypass
You're in it. Did you remove the original bypass and replace it or just remove it?

Re: Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

I just removed it. It's wide open and now I have to become a contortionist with cuts and bruises to get it plugged! It's always sumpin'. At least my motors are still together after this screwup. I may just leave the center as it came with the orig bypass.Damn, damn, damn,,,but thanks.

If you had good oil pressure before, don't worry about the center bypass.

Do not need the center bypass. Make sure you are not using the oil cooler outlets on the block, unless you have the GM part that goes in that hole. Easier to just not use them.

Re: Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

going back to my old posts looks like I pulled the center and left the fact. outside one. My memory is really going, need to start taking notes so I can find my way home. I just put a mech. gauge on the input side of filter housing and got 55 on both mtrs. Could it be my filters were plugged with water since I have just discovered they are paper after all. Any cheap synth filters while I'm clearing the water out of oil?? Thanks

Re: Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

Any way I could have plumbed it backwards at the remote adapter and right elsewhere and still get good pressure in the block and at the filter?

Sorry, one more thing,I'm using an anti drainback filter purolater L34631

This is the pick that Strip mentioned, i think.

You could have lines correct at remote filter but reversed at filter boss adapter. Happened in another thread http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=104184

You will get pressure without flow if it is being bypassed in the block. Make sure you installed the 30psi bypass in the block. If you are using the stock 5psi bypass you very likley have more than 5psi of restriction between cooler & remove filter to get oil to bypass.

Re: Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

I'm getting 55# at the filter cold and 27# when warm but no flow because the filter is COLD and I have bypassed the water around the cooler. I think my block has the center bypass out and the 11# one on the side. It's possible the remote adapter is backwards but I really watched it when installing and wonder if I missing something else.

Re: Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

BTW my remote adapter is the cheapo "not for marine" by transdapt or something. Just a a cast alum. piece with no moving parts. Funny thing is, ha ha, I remember they had the input and output reversed on the diagram,,,hummmmmmm
I asummed the center was out. But still when I unscrewed the input line to the filter and cranked it over it gushed oil out???So it seems right at that point

Re: Gen 6 oil bypass valves,,no filter flow???

On your adapter, the port that feeds through the center to the block is the return. Remember that oil filters go from the outside to the inside. More surface area that way.

yeah, that's how I did it
