Greasing the Coupler

I feel like a fool for asking but I can't stand on my head any longer....... Is there a grease fitting for the engine coupler, or do I need to pull the drive and grease the splines by hand.

On my bravo there is a grease fitting that you can get to without pulling the drive. You must pull the drive however to grease the u joints. Mercruiser specifies that the u joints be lubed every 50 hours of operation.

Re: Greasing the Coupler

The coupler is round like a drive shaft off the back of the engine going into the transom assembly.

Get on top center of the back of the motor and look straight down.

There is a grease fitting on it.

I pull the kill switch so the motor will not start and have the wife crank the engine over until the grease fitting appears on the top of the coupler.

It is not too hard.

Re: Greasing the Coupler

Bravo grease fittings.....

1 zerk - outside of gimble for the gimble bearing
2 zerks - pull drive, zerks are located on universal joints
2 zerks - located 180 degrees from one another on coupler, this is on a 454mag
2 zerks - located on mercruiser factory steering

Pretty much all are a pain in the ass except the gimble zerk... for the coupler, use the mercruiser spline grease, it's under 10 bucks... replacing a coupler is not cheap, motor has to come out, just went through this on my starboard motor.... Good Luck!!
